Sometimes when cold air is replaced by mild air the temperature will rise overnight. This happens (in my experience) more often in late Autumn, Winter and early Spring.

Yesterday it didn't get above 17c between 08.00 and 21.00, however on resetting the thermometer (it's a max/min one) this morning the temperature had risen to 21c overnight and was still 21c at 08.00 .

Similar happened at Yeovilton, however Bristol and Lyneham stayed around 18c/19c throughout.
