La Nina 'dominance'? it may well be marginally 'La Nina' but I wouldn't call it 'dominant' since feb! There does, recently seem to be a gradual move towards a proper, defined 'La Nina' but over the past few years we spent more time effectively in a 'null' with neither really holding sway.

Let's see what pours out by Mcmurdo sound this Dec/Jan and what that does to things!

I think you need to wait and see before dismissing it offhand.

Given the consistency of the patterns, its hard to see that there wont be an ice age in the future - however obviously not in our lifetime

If a no-ice age climate can exist on Venus than what's it can't exist on earth?

No, I'm not trying to dismiss anything! I just suspect, seeing as the major forcasters have been 'underperforming' recently, that we maybe have a novel influence at play that is queering their predictions.

True enough, but we are in a little different situation here for the moment. I'm sure we'll probably end up like Venus one day, but man made global warming aint going to push our temperatures up to 400C immediately - so we will probably see another ice age even long after we cease to exist, but eventually we will drop into an endless warming regime as the sun crawls to the end of its life.

Geological timescales though.

Earth is fundamentally different to Venus. We have oceans for a start, as well as a moon (which holds significant control on our climate). We also receive a good deal less heat from the sun, so I don't think one can draw comparisons between the two.
