There was a spectacular switcharound at the end of April 1866 where temperatures dropped as much as 15C in places.

CET daily means

27th April 1866: 16.5C

29th April 1866: 3.8C

Greenwich maxima

28th April 1866: 23.9C

29th April 1866: 9.4C

It was 26.1C on the 27th

Culford

26th: 21.1C

27th: 24.4C

28th: 10.6C

29th: 8.9C

Many locations reported their coldest and warmest temperatures for the month within a two or three days

Camden Square

26.3C on 27th

1.0C on 30th

Banbury

23.9C on 27th

-2.2C on 30th

Wigston

27.5C on 27th

-3.3C on 29th

Snow fell and laid in places and this continued into the beginning of May following the passage of the cold front which introduced the cold east to northeasterly winds. The frosts were especially damaging to fruit blossoms

April 1865 contrast has to be up there with some of the most sudden ones, only warm to cold one that comes sort of close recently is late March to early April 2021.

Curious as to what is the sharpest cold to warm contrast during mid spring? From my memory April 2003 comes to mind:
