That station was behaving strangely in Winter also.

Is it possible it was in the sun at 18:00?

Either that or an on-shore breeze was pegging the temperatures back until 18:00 when it died down since the surface heating stopped?

I suspect the answer is fairly straightforward.......there was an onshore breeze during most of the afternoon; this probably localised to the costal extremities. From around 4 o'clock the wind turned offshore (light easterly) and helped push the temperature up. Remember a mile or so inland the temperature would have been much warmer than it was at the coastal site of Crosby during the early afternoon.

Blackpool is now 26C at 7.30!!!!

Explanations make sense but still pretty remarkable. My highest temperature of the year has been achieved after 19.00 :drinks::unknw:

Note: Liverpool is currently 18C

Don't know where you got those figures from but they are wrong.

Manchester Airport was 21c at 7:50pm - Liverpool Airport doesn't appear to have been reporting all day.

Edit - a bit of research shows that the Liverpool temp of 18 was the last one recorded yesterday according to NOAA -

I noticed this myself. I was near New Brighton for most of the day and though it was quite warm during the afternoon, it felt very warm and muggy in the evening. Bizarre.

Was definitely the onshore breeze. Now the breeze is offshore the temperature is rocketing up like mine.

Also interesting to note, that station has recorded 0.4mm of rain during the last 24 hours. I wonder if some home grown convection was the cause, and this could of also been the reason why the temperature was held back so much yesterday, was it cloudy there yesterday, Adern?

It's well known New Brighton is the subtropical enclave of the Wirral :good: I'm walking there today actually.

It was pretty muggy here last night too.
