and just over the river a mostly sunny day ! It reached 20.2C earlier, fell back to 18.5C mid afternoon, despite the continuing sunshine.

I've actually been in Wallasey most of the day. Strange. There were some sunny breaks in the morning, but not that many.

Tiny range there! Amazing to see some of these maximums, roughly 6-7C off usual late August highs, cool end to a very cool summer, madness to think August may be the warmest month, shows how dreadful the summer is - with the exception of warm spells in late June, mid July and early August - April outshone them all. September will be nearly as warm as August IMO - with lows moving in, I think we'll get the warm eastern end, starting with ex-h Irene. If the lows can brush through the nation and hp ridges into the mid-atlantic however, a few frosty and wintry nights possible - September could be very good, and, unlike this summer, interesting in the UK :)

Durham observatory only reached 13.8C today! And it's incredible to see the lowest max in August since 2001 when the source isn't that cold and the uppers are 2-6C around the nation, aswell as a Southerly flow. I guess it's faux pas as the Sw'ly in December that was cool.

Yes we were near the edge of the cloud band that covered what seemed to be most of Wirral and Liverpool, but to the southwest/SSW, it was blue sky all the way, and as a consequence we got sunshine for most of the afternoon!

Thunder and lightning here now, coming from Heswall way actually. The sky's gone a pinkish-orange colour.

It would probably be down to the winds coming in from the Sea and coupled with the rain, it creates cool conditions, nothing particuarly unusual really. The dewpoints were quite high and that tells you we are in modest air rather than anything particuarly cool.

Be interesting too see what the temps will be in Northern & Eastern Scotland on Sunday with even cooler uppers and heavy rain, temperatures could struggle to get into double figures. I punt Aberdeen won't get any higher than 11C if the rain lasts all day.

As you say, dull cloudy day with moderate rain at times, there was a heavier downpour this morning but thats about as exciting the weather got unfortunately. Certainly seen more miserable days than this though thats for sure.

Bridgwater also suffers from the close sea and todays continual rain added to the cold making us a 13C high as well. No sun despite forecast. Drier inland at home nr Somerton but no warmer at 5.30 pm,

I am not going to complain as I am not sufferring the onset of a hurricane or a famine, so will count my luck stars instead (if the clouds part for a while).sorry.gif

Looks like the last of any rain for a while for here at least, 12mm fell today, which isn't too bad. A paltry max of 16.8C before the rain got going again this afternoon.
