Hi, I was just wondering if a spell checker feature could be added to the forums as many including my self find some words hard to spell and it makes the posts look messy when you see spelling mistakes.

Thanks

There used to be an add on you could download which would do an automatic spellcheck. Paul will be able to tell you if this is still an option (and don't we all need a spellchecker???!!!)

Good idea, anyway i use this online dictionary - http://dictionary.reference.com/ when needed, to have one built in to the post editor would be good though!

fine if one uses Firefox but of little use if one does not use it.

I don't think its too outrageous Paul for one to be available within Net Weather. Until the updgrade that was the case?

It's not generally something that any site will have 'server side' as it would effectively be checking a large database (ie the dictionary) every time someone types a word and would cause massive load. It's something that is much more suited, and widely used as a client side tool - Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera I believe all have built in spell checkers, it's only ie which doesn't.

IE does have a 3rd party (but very old) plugin called iespell, but it seems it's not compatible with the newer online editors including the one of the forum, this isn't something we can control unfortunately. IE9 also has a spell checked plugin available called speckie, but I don't know too much about it. The choice really is to either use a browser with one built in, use IE9 + plugin, or perhaps go put some pressure on Microsoft to update to a browser with one built in, as there's nothing we can do in terms of feature sets on the forum to add a spell checker.

Have to admit, personally I find Chrome and Firefox far superior to IE.

They only take a minute to download, give them a go at least and if you do not like them then stick with IE :)

Why not just use Chrome?

It's the best browser available in terms of looks, speed and efficiently. It has a similar spell checker to MS Office. It's absolutely brilliant.

Give it a go. You'll be surprised at how much faster it is than Firefox and IE.
