Still 2 weeks away yet never say never

I am saying never ! , yes I want some warmer stuff too. but looking at the models its going to be a hard call to get 20c anytime in April at this rate, would this be a first? ie no 20c anywhere in UK before 1st May, A depressing thought

may 28th on my 18th birthday!

April 27th my birthday, although unfortunately not my 18th sad.png in fact my son celebrated his 18th 2 weeks ago. I remember as a child that it was always hot and sunny on my birthday. I use to be given the bumps on the school field and we were only allowed on there at playtimes if it was warm and dry.

Seeing as 20c could be over a month away, in the shorter term what date will we see the next double digits, surely it has to happen in the first 2 weeks of April, but will it?tease.gif

We havent hit double digits since 30th January here and just 13 times since 22nd November. In 33 years the closest to that is 13 days reaching double figures from 1st December 1984 - 1st April 1985, apart from that no year comes close.

If we manage to get to the end of March without any double figure temperatures, then it'll be only the second time in that 33 year period that two consecutive months have failed to hit 10C. Ironically the other example was recently in January and February 2010.

The high maximum so far this month of 9.6C is the second coldest, just losing out to March 1996 which had a high max of 9.0C.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
