I don't think there is a topic for the SST's of the North Sea (unless I'm wrong?) but seeing as Summer has now approached, it may be a good thing to see how warm the North Sea gets and whether storms can push out from the continent into England without losing energy.

I will post the daily MetOffice North Sea SST every day for comparison and obviously the weekly average every week.

Partly because I live close to the coast, these stats are much more interesting and useful for me in terms of when I could take my first paddle/swim in the seaPosted Image Still rather cold atmPosted Image

my to swim in the N Sea in mid summer takes a great deal of courage in my view. As a kid I can never recall it being anything other than not that pleasant whilst swimming off Jersey was almost pleasant!

Give me the eastern Med or off Ascension!

That's incredible. Does it always warm that fast? It looks like the temp has increased several degrees in a week!

That looks to me like it's just the scale colours at the bottom shifting rather than the SST's shifting, i.e for some reason the latest chart uses the same colour range for a temp range of 0-20C whereas the top chart it was 5-20C.

There is another link I have been using recently to monitor SST's, but for some reason it hasn't been working for the last couple of days. It did show temps in the North Sea increasing 1-2C during the recent settled spell in June, and more like 3C just west of Britain i.e off the S and W coasts of Ireland (from about 11C to about 14C if I recall correctly) and also close to some West UK mainland coasts.

As a side note on the 5th June I went to the beach in NE Kent with friends and the shallow sea was surprisingly warm, the tide was low but it had started coming in and must have been flowing over warm sand.

Seeing as there's MCS potential over the continent in the next few days, might be an idea to look at the channel.
