After the warmest October for the CET on record, there was a shock when a week into the following November, there was an early season wintry blast that brought snowfalls to parts of the east. Some places saw

lying snow.

It was this cold snap that prompted me to look at the BBC weather site and that's when I first discovered the weather forums!  Bill Giles was also doing 30 and 90 day forecasts and I remember he was going for a mild 2001/02 Winter and he was proved correct!

Blimey, I remember them. As for him being correct with that winter forecast, if you had gone for a mild winter during that period, you were very often right. (Cynic hat on)
