Wettest place in the UK had 70.4mm? I had 21mm more than that. I know I'm not official but that's a very low total for the wettest place.

That was the highest one day rainfall :)    Although I thought it was 71.8 (at Chillington on the 22nd)

4.8c to finish. Coldest month relative to the mean this year at 1.7c below Met Office 19810-2010 average.

11 air frosts is quite rare for November. We were a bit too far east but many parts of the region saw snowfall at some point during the month, with some mountains seeing over 2 weeks of lying snow.

One village in the Yorkshire Dales saw 13 inches of snow in November, quite exceptional!

November - Hobart, Tasmania

Fractionally cooler than average for the second month in a row ( 1981-2010 comparisons ). So many warm months in the last few years so it's a nice pair of stats to look at. The anomaly was -0.1C under but +0.3C up on the 1961-1990 numbers. Rainfall was up by a bit, the annual average has now been exceeded.

Average maximum: 18.6 ( -0.3 )

Average minimum:  10.1 ( +0.2 )

Rainfall: 65mm ( average 54mm )

Rain days ( +1mm ):  7/from 18

Half of the months rain came down between 12th-14th. A low pressure trough dropped south from the continent, forming a reasonably deep low over  Bass Strait waters bringing moist easterly winds onto the exposed coast. Cold, low cloud and damp on the 13th. A front overnight on the 4th brought 8mm of rain and snow to 1000m by the morning. A front on the 22nd didn't bring much rain but high pressure ridging from the south-east brought 11mm of showers and drizzle at night, followed by a cloudy and cool day with onshore winds persisting. Other rain days brought negligable rainfall totals, composed of weak Southern Ocean fronts or afternoon convection, especially at the end of the month.

Extremes in daily temperature for November ( records since 1882 )

Highest maximum:  29.6.....17th ( record 36.8 in 1937 )

Lowest maximum:  11.8.....13th ( record 8.4 in 1885 )

Highest minimum:  15.0.....22nd ( record 19.9 in 1937 )

Lowest minimum:  6.1.....2nd, 24th ( record 0.3 in 1913 )

...............

Spring had a temperature anomaly of +0.2 ( above the 1981-2010 average ) making it the coolest season since 2013.

Spring rainfall of 243mm was just over 40% of the long-term average making it the wettest season since 2009.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
