  1. Which would you choose? I would have to go for the severe thunderstorms event of July 1st/2nd 1968. By all written accounts (was only 3 at the time so don't really remember anything of the event) an area of the UK stretching in a line from Devon up to Merseyside along the England/Wales border experienced almost continuous thunder and lightning for 24 hours!!! Hailstones measuring 7x6cm recorded at Cardiff Airport. Daytime darkness and widespread red rain from Saharan dust. Cloud tops recorded as being in excess of 42,000 feet. Would be quite an experience to relive this event.
  2. Some seriously intense echoes on radar, up to 250mm/hr showing. But again just like yesterday, cells moving at a fair old lick.
  3. 22nd August 2015 was a decent multi cell storm in Wrexham. But the last time we had a REALLY big one was July 2001.
  4. We had a couple of distant rumbles from the storm that rocketed past Mold/Connah's Quay way and that was it.
  5. You might want to rewrite that...that or the double entendre was intended?
  6. That's it. The Summer Solstice has now been and gone. For us who prefer the cold and short days, the countdown to our time has begun. The starting gun has been fired. Bring it.
  7. Agreed...look at the sky and there isnt much in the way of discernable movement. Once you look at the radar however you see them flying at high speed...most unusual.
  8. Anyone planning on chasing, be prepared to put yer foot down. These mothers arent hanging around.
  9. What is very noticeable about these showers/storms is their rate of movement. Looking back on the radar images shows them zipping through at a hell of a rate of knots. If you get one then expect it to be here and gone within half an hour!
  10. Current conditions : 26c /14c dew point Sunny (except to the south of here) with a now noticeable NW breeze.
  11. They had thunderstorms for me between 2pm and 4pm...the thunder was epic by its silence...the lightning...indescribable...erm.
  12. Been watching the sky on and off for the past 3-4 hours and the story has been (and continues to be) one of watching cumulus developing then smacking into the cap aloft and decaying. Its pretty hot out there....but the one change since this morning has been in wind direction from SE to NW with a noticeable increase in the strength of breeze as well...
  13. The insane thunderstorms of July 3rd/4th. Lightning strikes in excess of 80 per minute.
  14. Anyone directly under that squall line will be getting some impressive rainfall totals.
  15. Sun shining nicely now but the wind is more fitting of a day in October...strong and chilly. Flaming June my Arsenal.
  16. Not hanging around to say hi those showers/storms are they? Moving N/NE at a fair old lick.
  17. Met office saying on twitter that warnings have been cancelled. Nothing more to add.
  18. That'll be the reaction of those who get wet mess and one weak cloud fart.
  19. From Derek Brockway on Twitter Derek Brockway‏Verified account @DerekTheWeather 21m21 minutes ago SE of a line from Lyme Bay to the Wash at greatest risk of thunderstorms tonight. Hail, gusty winds and flash flooding in places.
  20. Very black to the S of Wrexham earlier...two CGs spotted. Heavy rain mixed with a fair bit of hail, just starting to ease now. Lots of surface water.
  21. We had about an hour of light rain between 2 and 3pm. Always on the western fringe of the rainband. Not complaining though. Grass is lush and green.
  22. Sunshine now gone. Already feeling a lot cooler with a stiff breeze. Nice while it lasted.
