Is Lightning Maps broken? I've been watching it most of the evening now suddenly I'm getting an error coming up. Just as it looks like something may be heading this way....typical!
Working for me

Just had the furthest strike east in the Channel today !

Well Estofex showing the possibility of something for the far south east today

Just got back from Dungeness and Camber. I can honestly say I have never seen anything quite like that before. A mixture of CTG and intercloud lightning of varying colours from pink through to golden through to green. Booming thunder but sometimes almost throttled by comparison. Genuinely lightning every half a second as the main cell past up the channel. Roads flooded on the way back to Ashford. A memorable night for sure.

Looking to head down to Dymchurch in an hour or so.... It's a great vantage point to see the storms coming up the Channel

Wherever it's going it's going there .... slowwwwllllllyyyyy

remember the forecasts folks, tonight's storms will be a result of elevated convection....the english channel/sea temps will have absolutely no bearing on these storms.....things to look for are steepening lapse rates in the mid-levels aided by nocturnal cooling in conjunction with an ever increasingly unstable theta air mass
Where do we track these parameters please?

Flying to Iceland tomorrow at 6.15 am from Gatwick... pretty sure it's up to Scotland before a 300 ° turn. A light breakfast me thinks!

Off to Iceland on Thursday and looking at the forecast should see some decent snow at last.
Downside is the Northern Lights probably won't be visible.

Probably because most of us get sick and tired of the mind numbing drab mediocrity of our insidious climate , and are desperate for something remotely seasonal , be that Summer or Winter.
I don't mind the summers too much down in Kent... warm enough for me and a few imported TS now and again ( could do with more, obviously)
Winters are crap.... continually willing the modelled snow fests to materialise but instead normally getting a marginal snow event that thaws in a day or two.
It is what is and will never change in my lifetime. We have to suck it up or go elsewhere for a snow fix in the winter as no guarantees of a frost let alone snow.

The snow I had this morning must have been about 1cm. It was gone from every service after 30 mins. Worse than last winter's only snow event!
Church or car ? Only joking matey !
It lingered on the grass here a bit longer but I want a good dumping or it can do one..... tbh

Don't know about "Sleetless In Seattle" but definately "Snowless In Ashford"

Good luck to people away from the SE in a weeks time.Genuinely hope you get a bucket load
However, this set up offers diddly squat for me..... Unashamed rampant nimbyism I know !
-
Roll on summer, more chance of imported storms down here than a severe weeks weather in the winter it seems.

Just demoralising isn't it? Always jam tomorrow.
However, I don't subscribe to the view that we're becoming more 'snowless' but can't get excited over 3 day snowy events.
2010/1991/1978/9 type events once in a while are the only thing that keep me interested.

I stare intrigued at the pretty purples , blues and oranges swirling around on the charts like a psychedelic hippy wet dream but haven't a scooby what they mean.

I used to listen to the 5 minute detailed forecast at 5.55 am on Radio 4 in the 1980's.
No way to let each days model swing turn into a daily mood swing back then.

Was at Costa Teguise, Lanzarote 2 weeks ago. Most days were sunny & warm, topping out at 26c. Did have a windy & cool couple of days though, very windy for the Canaries.
Exactly where I'm going AWD!

Just hoping for an Azores high to take up residence this side of X Mas. Got a week in the Canaries soon. Selfish I know!

Cumulonimbus here in Ashford ... wasn't expecting that.

Shock. It all did a right turn as usual at the last minute!!
Yep, Even Kent missed out for the most part.
I didn't go to the coast yesterday evening as I expected them to come to me.... Won't be making that mistake again !!
-
On the forecasts I've seen the storms are likely to start kicking off in the Kent/E. Sussex area from around 18,00.
I don't think these ones are in Brest but rather will grow rapidly over N France before crossing the Channel.
