taken five mins ago, pictures dont do the size of the flakes justice at all but you get a feel of what we are getting, awesome snowfall and its still going.
i agree the flakes are now a lot bigger than a 50p not seen snow like this in years
-

Ye the met office got it pretty wrong as usual lol. But cant see anything tonight, the gfs precipitation forcast shows nothing apart from around the humber... http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn124.png. And being right under the high pressure now I can see why... http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn121.png

Widespread Icy Roads 1915 Wed 10 1000 Thu 11
Following Wednesday's snow showers widespread ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces during Wednesday evening, Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. In addition to this further snow showers are expected to give accumulations of a centimetre or two in places.
The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on road conditions on motorways and trunk roads.

Sorry you bet me to it :-)

snow/hail dusting very very icy underfoot been on A**e twice so far
-
Even now, any heavy precipitation would fall as snow. To get light snow and sleet with such light precipitation is a very good sign, especially with the current heigh of the 0c isotherm which would also drop in the heavier precipitation.
I would say it will fall as snow to all levels, just keep an eye on dew points. If its at 0c or below at the time of the precipitation expect snow.
thanks for you prompt reply Lewis
looking at the precip charts country file weather seams to be spot on so far, i am still not expecting a vast amount untill later in the week any more would be a bonus
cheers

Waiting for the 06z NMM,
The 00z showed an organised line of precipitation in the form of a trough early hours of tomorrow morning pushing quite far inland, with the heavier precipitation around 11am - 12pm.
Hi Lewis
is this liable to fall as snow at lower levels, this morning has been more sleet than rain
cheers

i am sending a link from paul Hudsons blog from tonight
he is talking about the Ensembles and he is saying "the most likely outcome is conditions to turn colder again next week as air spreads in from the near continent"

A very light dusting here, think we just the one shower,
glad i didnt stop up any longer lol

There's a big shower heading straight for me, so hopefully it won't weaken too much as it crosses the humber

Nice covering here if you can call it that. Very gusty, the snow flakes don't seem that large, small in natural, but certainly a lot of it coming down. I think the Humber is doing something to weaken them, nice all the same.
i think thats very true it's still clear here yet i can see the snow clouds on the north bank
-
Nothing more than the odd flake here, but the showers further north are moving much further inland.
clear here i can see the moon but i can see Lewis's blizzard getting nearer lol (bet it misses me lol)
-
i was just looking on the North Eastern thread and they are saying the snow is still moving inland all be it very slowly
-
I'd perhaps wait a touch longer mate. The next batch of showers appears to be further to the West.
Edit: heavy graupel shower at the moment
i was just thinking of going to bed and thought the same lol
-
East Yorkshire and N Yorkshire in for a pasting!
I had a wild guess about the feature this morning happening around 11pm, can it happen for an all time accuracy best lmfao!
Brian you got your camera ready mate?
hope some of it comes over the great snow barrier (humber)
-
Derek IMO is very very good too. I watch his forecasts when I visit my dad and he reminds me of old school forecasters....as in he is willing to 'forecast'....great stuff.

BBC Wales forcast just said that feb looks like it is going to start off very cold,he said its coming back the cold weather that is.
and said it is coming from mainland europe.
I posted a blog earlier on "weather on the media" from a BBC forcaster saying very simular
