  1. ...

Is it a crime to take some rock-slat from a roadside bin to spread at home to prevent a slip or fall which would result in a broken back and cost the NHS millions of pounds?

Theft by finding probably. They sling you in a freezing cold cell, take your mug shot, all your finger prints and swab you for DNA.

  2. GFS current 18z model is showing clear for tonight and tomorrow - sorry folks - it actually did very well at predicting the snow we had last night!

Looking at both 12Z and 18Z GFS it looks showery to me tomorrow. But maybe hail more than snow? North Wales looks to be in with a fair bit of action. Maybe South coast too?

Edit: You don't recon showers tomorrow Jackone?

  3. Earlier, whilst Netweather was transferring its core servers from Sheffield to somewhere in China, I was looking at the GFS 18Z and I got some Deja vu. I remember myself at some time in the past being convinced that the air (which was aloft at the time) coming from the West would give us snow. More experienced netweather people told me it would be modified (made warmer) by the Atlantic/Irish sea and would fall as rain. I found this very unlikely and told everyone I know to 'Take Action', because of the heavy snowfall that was coming our way.

Duuuurrrrr:oops: To cut a long story short, it really does look a bit wet for Saturday, unless you are very elevated or away from the sea?

  4. It was expected that The Needles Old Battery would record the highest gust, it always does in southerly severe wind events. (The Met Office even state that this site is not reflective at all, of the winds nearby) My prediction of 74mph across the far SW was one of the closest anyone has got to predicting the maximum gust out of this system. I think aj predicted a gust of 79mph somewhere, and he was spot on with somewhere in south Wales I think recording a 79mph gust, though I think he predicted it for a different location. Cornwall recorded a 72mph so I was indeed close to mark.

I'm still not sure what the highest gusts were but it was quite obvious that gusts into the 70s were the highest that were going to be experienced. Quite a few high 60s, touching 70mph across the south coast.

I feel that we should all chip in and get some sort of special award or medal for you. Well done!

  5. Very wet yesterday morning with fields saturated and water streaming down the road. Wind was from the S obviously. In the PM it dried up, the wind turned W, there was blue sky nearly at times. Around midnight the wind (much slacker by now) turned S and for a very short time absolutely pushed it down. Seriously. Further showers since then but not as intense. Min temp was 4C sometime before 00Z. The weather gods are very angry at the moment.
