lets hope that this thread is more mature than the model thread and the last regional thread.....honestly it seems that 10yr olds are posting silly comments!!
I like most am a little dissapointed when i see the word downgrade but hey it s always a possibility and if a part of the country suddenly gets more chance of snow than me the good luck to them im not gonna be nasty towards them!!
ok rant over!! good to see saint here and mrsf16

Hi Guys havent posted in this thread for a while good to see some of the same old faces and many new ones too!!
Have to say looking in the mosel thread is quite scarey and the saying "becareful what you wish for" springs to mind!! i love a bit of drama weather but dont wish misery on people and feel if the models come off there will be many a sad story!
Having said that.....it does sound exciting times could be heading our way........snow and xmas decs up ....cild not be more festive!!

Thank you for giving us our own thread, if only for a brief time. We Three County folk usually end up in a no man's land limbo on weather forecast maps.
Perhaps next time we have a big snow 'event' (hate that term) we can have our thread back?
yeah it was good fun and got to know our more local posters a bit better!!! can't wait for the thread reunion!!

Hi all
Well i noticed the snow at about 5.30am and continued until around 2.30pm ish. It was heavy in the early hours then light throughout the day, did look like it wanted to get heavy at times.
It took 45mins to get my son to school because of slow moving traffic!!! Every road we turned down was road block!! And to really take the p*** the school rang me at 12.03pm to let me know that they would be closing the school at 12.30pm!!!!!
Why do that?? the snow had melted from the roads and the paths were melting quick too!! Was it really worth sending the kids home, bet they feel silly now its stopped snowing and its all melting very quick!!
So whats do you think may happen at the end of next week? I've looked at a few weather sites and they say we may be in for more snow in these parts?! Thats if the cold snap can fend off the mild weather.
hi Boo
Here in leighton buzzard we had the same, school insisted that it would be open normal times only to send the children home at lunchtime.......I did attempt to take boys in but gave up after 200yards!!! Glad I did now
As for what is coming next i imagin it is anyones guess as forecasts change from one broadcast to the next!!! starting to freeze up here in leighton Buzzard!!

Well it finally seems to have stopped after about 10 hours of alternating between light snow and snizzle, which hasen't really amounted to much more than another 2cm on top of what we had already got. There have been some signs of a very slight thaw in the last hour but I expect things will soon start to freeze up again and make for some interesting drives home for some people this evening. I had to go out this morning for a meeting at 11am and thought the roads were the worst they have been so far (even our sub post office was closed as staff had failed to get in, which was annoying as I really needed to get there today) I saw a couple of abandoned cars, lots of skid marks and one person had driven all the way up a hill on the grass verge! One of the people at the meeting left only to slide across the car park and crash into the gates, lucky no one was hurt just a dent in her car!
It has been nice to see the snow falling in daylight hours, (saved the eye strain watching lamposts), even though the flakes have been disappointingly small.
Looks like this is it for a little while with the 'relatively warmer' weekend on the cards, unless of course one of you knows something different !
well bbc national forecast hinted that the east may a slight chance of wintery conditions at the weekend, but the local bbc forecast just said warmer and rain...........as usual what do you believe?? Havent a clue any more!!

Pain in the bum for you not being able to work but I think learner drivers are the last thing we need out there today. I am putting off learning to drive until all the snow has gone, I figure the last thing this town needs is me (who seems to struggle controlling my own two feet) in control of a chunk of metal on icy roads LOL
LOL that is a good point!! And knowing my luck some one would crash in to me and then i will have no car to work with when the snow melts!!!
Looks like its melting now slowly but still snowing slightly!
-
I am going nowhere today! I got my food shopping done yesterday so I have no reason to leave the house. I am all set for it to snow for the next week at least (wishful thinking I know LOL)
lol not long got back from the tesco run..............epic!!! And no one wants a driving lesson so stuck at home myself!
-
Meltz I live up near Vandyke but the kids are at school near you. I can't believe that the upper schools have now shut and a few middle schools but the lower schools are staying open. Ours seems determined to stay open til 3:15. It is madness out there on the roads and I have watched the Gilbert's kids on their way home slipping all over the paths. I am glad I decided not to take mine in today as 3pm will be chaos!
While I appreciate the schools trying to open I also think it is rather silly and forcing unnecessary traffic on already dangerous roads.
i agree and to open then send them home makes it pointless opening!! Just saw a few pupils from gilberts slipping over my self! Its going to be chaos later in town and outside calls that are still open, Highfield road is dreadful!! good luck if you have to go out in it!!
-
I was horrified when he phoned and told me - the kids weren't too freaked out and luckily there were no cars around otherwise he would have hit one but it's just not worth the risk. Will have to go and get my daughter later though ...
Probably good practice to learn to drive in this! LOL
yep even more chaos when parents return to collect their children from school!!!!
have given a couple lessons in the snow quite a character building experiance if you know what i mean!!!
Anyone have an idea how long this snow will last?
-
What is going on with the Met Office weather warnings? Our region is sticking right into the orange area but is still a stubborn yellow!
We have 3cms and still snowing. My daughter's school is open and my husband spun the car round 3 times while on the school run. He gave up on taking my son to nursery
Hi Mrs M
i had exact same prob in the end i just turned around and came home all 3 boys off school again and im stuck at home as cant teach people to drive in this!!!
-
How much snow have you had?
about 3 to 4cms and still snowing. tried to do school run 40mins ago and the dry gap the car left on drive is now covered!! its caught a lot of people out i feel as we didn't really expect this much today. Wet snow, may a little dusting if we're lucky was one bbc forecast i heard!!!
And still snowing with radar saying it will continue for a few more hours!!

I have just had the journey from hell. I live in Dunstable, I had to travel to Slip End to collect a couple of colleagues, then to another part of Dunstable to collect another colleague, I left home at 7:15am. The hill to slip end was a treacherous then, I had to ask the Dunstable friend to walk to meet me as I was not going to get near her house. An hour and 40 minutes later I arrived in MK, all roads treacherous, even the A5. Snowing continuously, brakes not very effective. Just don't go out, it's the worst driving conditions I've ever known, no point going home, as the A5 is at a standstill southbound.
That sounds horrendus!!!. Very bad here too in leighton Buzzard tried to do the school run and cars were getting stuck in the town.......all schools open and its utter chaos out there!!!
