here in leighton buzzard we have a good covering and still snowing!!!!
-
Yes, it is a very slow thaw indeed - when I was a child I remember the local farmers saying if the 'snow lay for more than a day it was waiting for more not for a thaw' or something like that (it was a long time ago) so perhaps there is something in the saying !
our local canal is still frozen and just did a driving lesson in Tring, which kind of on the beds herts and bucks borderish and there has't been much of a thaw there at all! temp ion car is just above freezing 0.5.
As for where Heart fm get their forecasts from your prob right about them getting it from met office!! so much for sunny spells here today!!
as far as im aware we're not due any snow tonight, possibly a cm or two tomorrow?
meltz!
lol, walking dogs by ponds and lakes terrifies me now! I was out for a walk round a local lake on Sunday night and it was frozen solid, so my friend decided to see how frzoen by putting a foot on it (whilst holding on) and the fliippin dog (not a terribly small dog) just walked onto the lake!!!
Also, later on we saw a cat or fox running around on the lake (right in the midle) trying to catch a duck for dinner!
It is currently 2.4c here and my weather station tells me it is raining, although it isn't!
That weather system coming in from the SW is blooming huge, I wonder if it will be snow or rain for us, could the continued cloud cover cause temps to stay above 2c and bring us rain, it just seems like the conditions have left us now?
I'm with you on that, i hate seeing dogs walking on the ice!! Whats worse is the idiots that let their dogs walk on the ice only to risk life and limb jumping in to save them!!
having done many a winter deployment in Norway with the Royal Marines we had to do ice breaking drills and the shock that hits you is so severe it can stop you breathing!!!!!!! BRRRRRRR never do that again!!!!
-
My guess for snow amounts tomorrow going on latest model output would
be for 5 to 10cm for the herts area.
This is likely to change as further updates become available.
Really? how far west in herts do you think?

Helloooooooooooooo
Where is everyone
I hope a night off from the radar/lampost watching hasn't resulted in you all oversleeping
What are the general thoughts on tonight/tomorrow, will the snow from the SW get as far as here ?
Anyhow it looks like we could have a 'less cold' weekend ahead.
hellooooooooooo snowangel
i'm here! heart fm weather today said that dry and sunny today and clear spells over night with a low of -1.
agree about the weekend though
-
I all.
Do any of you have the luxury of be able to radar/post watch with your or halves blessings, or even better together?
Or are we all confined to the odd sneak, with rugular grumbles of get off that laptop, its not gonna snow?
Im sure this is not unique to my house hold!!
Snows coming for MK I think, the temp has help at +0.4c for 3 hrs now, is this dropping when the snow showers arrive helping it stick?
lol thats so funny but very true in my house anyway!!!!!!!!
-
KERCHING!!!!!!!! No need to wait till midnight... Drinks all round
lol fantastic!! may take your advice on the horses at the weekend!! still very light snow here and still leaving a dusting!! dont bother with the tv forecasts now as they said we would't see any today! it must be as some keep saying so hard to forecast anything when its like this.............except for tiets of course!!!
-
According to raintoday I should be covered in the stuff!! hahaha But Im not, glad to see TEITS has got some!!! Think Im taking that bet quickly lol xxx
lol could be drinks on you then at midnight then!!! here in south beds we have a snow shower and settling aswell which is a suprize after the way the laying snow has been melting all day!!
-
You are VERY lucky that someone didnt climb a lampost near you and throw some snow downwards lol
lol
-
haha pmsl at METO Invent rainfall radar, http://www.metoffice...ent/weathermap/ looking at the jump from 11pm to Midnight is actually comical!! from dry barren land to complete saturation by their forecast!! If we get snow at midnight I will run naked through it and post pictures!
lol ever say something then thought .....oops!!!
hope it snows for you then!!

Think driving lessons in the snow should be a part of learning to drive. I think that the reason for all the drama around snow is due to the fear of driving in it. I dont like driving in the snow myself much but while I was having driving lessons there was no snow to drive in. Thats my thoughts anyway others may not agree. We are going to get told off for going off topic soon but with not much going on it will turn into a ghost town unless the next lot of snow comes.
The ppn starting to cross the channel seems to heading further north than me and only little showers coming towards ea
Janet x
true lessons in driving in the snow is a good thing, but sadly some people are idoits to the conditions on the roads and risk banging in to you effectively putting your car out of action for a while stopping you from work and inducing more stress!
did do a lesson yesterday and made the guy lose control just so he knows what it feels like and how to rememedy the situation!!
back to the topic if your saying the ppn is coming across the channel and heading further north than you is this a good thing?

Maybe it does . . looking at the radar you stand a much better chance of getting snow in the next few hours than I do. Which will please my little sister no end as she isnt a million miles from you (luton) and has had enough of the snow now!
Janet
just looked at radar and honestly can't tell!!! i rely on others input to get an idea so your well ahead of me!!
i love the snow, but have to admit its costing me a fortune cant convince many peeps to have a driving lesson in the snow!!!!
melts!

E I E I E I O.............

A couple of glasses of red wine and I wont be getting back out of bed for at least a week!! lol
Yes I know they can drop as quick as they rise but mine have been rising all day . . was colder at 2pm than it is now!
Janet x
have to admit that my temp here has risen from -3.5 to -0.5 but hey still hold hope!!!
Last time when the snow came down the temp rose to about 0 don't know if it means anything??
meltz
-
1.8c now . . if it carried on like this all night it will be 10c by morning!!
Yes i know im a dramaqueen just just prefer if temps were -1.8c when we have ppn supposed to be heading this way overnight!
Janet
Hey Janet temps can drop as quick as they go up!!
just do what i do on a night like this..........couple glases of red go to bed and hope for a suprize in the morn!!!

No not the best conditions for us HGV drivers..all it takes is Me putting my brakes on and the trailer carrying on..aka JACK KNIFE
How many will be moaning stuck behind me.

Ok so about 5 hours ago now I got bored of watching the radar and decided to go play in the garden with the snow I already had laying. The result...... The SNOWBOT.

have to agre with what some guys are saying the forecasts on the the tv especially the bbc do seem vague and not very specific also changing all the time!! I've stopped looking out for them now and mainley rely on the guys with good knowlege on the weather on this site! They have been pretty good so far and predicted most of what has come our way long before the bbc have dared to say!!!
keep up the good work guys....from what i gather its very hard to predict exactly where and how much snow will fall..... but at least we're having a better winter winter than we have had for a long time!!!!

On a slightly different note I will add that the models tonight have completely backed away from it turning milder. After Tues the risk of snowfall is significantly less but we should keep our lying snow. Rather worrying with regards to our levels of grit.
and if your a driving instructor!!!
-
here here! one snow shower this evening and i'm happy, plus I am on beer number 2 so everything is great, lol!!!
-
I'm also on the red wine - maybe would be more appropriate!
lol at least if anything our posts would make sense to each other!! have to admit i love the snow though in Norway i was sick of the site of it after a month or two!!
only down side is being a driving instructor i dont earn anything with weather like this, but....hey enjoy it while its here!!!
bring on tomorrow nite for all of us 3 counties people!!!!
-
LOL again
lol yes mrs m. my spelling would get see me written in red by it if i was at school!!!
drinking red wine while i read this looking out window!!
-
I will just add that come tomorrow the period when we could see heavier snow will come in the range of the NMM, NAE models.
If the GFS runs are correct including the UKMO then expect the BBC tomorrow night to include our region for heavy snow on Sunday afternoon/night.
Rather simply put our snow gets a turbo boost due to the winds changing from ENE,ly to E,ly. The cold upper temps spreading across the N Sea on the E,ly enhances the precip.
cheers teits
as poeple have already mentioned its great to have your input on this thread and most of the time you have been spot on............... been following it for three years now............ not that im any good at reading the models!!! lol
-
Great Analysis Dave!
One thing you left off though - The chance of Serious Drifting in areas exposed to the Strong Easterly wind, this could be more hazardous than the 15-20cm
seroiusly? as far as south beds?

It was the 'just to confuse things more' bit
