Only a couple of flurries here so far this morning.
Can't complain though as wasn't expecting to see anything!
-
-
Last few GFS runs have had the HP slightly further north west and the SW moving in towards us a bit more. More defined easterlies on the 6z run and tighter isobars.
should see the showers slightly further inland
Does this increase the chances for Essex?

I think if people used the threads as they are set up, then the moaning would be much better contained. It is a mixture between the moaning and the argumentative power struggles that go on that are so off putting.
I've finally given up anyway.
Thank heavens for the regional threads
BABY's - love it - so true and so apt!
Does that mean we get the benefit of your expertise in here more often then?
If so, I for one would like to say a big :nonono:

First snow shower of the day here
Let's hope it's the first of many!

Yay we're back!!
Anyone care to guess what our prospects are for next week?

Im on the metoffice website and their forecasts and i don't see an update, i still see's yesterdays.
can you help me please by cutting and pasting the info.
thanks in advance
Here you go......
UK Outlook for Tuesday 9 Feb 2010 to Thursday 18 Feb 2010:
Rather cold with a mixture of bright spells and scattered sleet and snow showers in the north and east. Strong winds are also expected around exposed eastern coasts. The driest and brightest weather is expected in the northwest for much of the period. Rain, sleet and snow may spread into the south during Thursday, clearing southwards by the weekend (12th-13th). Overnight, frost is likely in many places, with locally severe frost inland. Remaining cold for the rest of the period with snow showers, particularly in eastern and some central areas, with perhaps some significant accumulations of snow in places. There is also a risk of further bands of rain, sleet and snow spreading into the south, particularly later in the period.

OMG!!! Hve been trying to follow the model thread but don't get it at all!!
Would anyone care to explain what is going on to a real newbie who has no idea how to read those charts?!?!
Would just like to add that I am trying to understand the charts...... it's just taking a while
-
Got myself NW radar to watch the fun coming.
Dark to the west.
Dave h Margate.
You won't regret it..... although be careful it is VERY addictive!
-
Thanks for the polar low explanations guys!
Snowing again here now!
-
What is a polar low?
-
He he!! Just finished reading your forecast, looked up and its snowing!!
-
I love you Yamkin..... you are ALWAYS such a glass half full person!!
It seems to be all doom and gloom in the model thread at the moment so I'll take your forecasts any day
-
potential snowfall over se/east anglia on saturday night into sunday ,especially east anglia sunday early hrs ,
Oh dear, Im in the blue bit...... guess that's rain for me then!
-
Thanks for posting the charts guys!
Lets hope this thread has the chance to get a bit busier again this weekend
-
Thanks for the reply Yamkin...... lets hope those charts come off!!!!
Ooh, I'm just soo excited!!
Sorry I'll calm down now!
-
I have emailed Steve Murr asking if he is ok and that many are missing him. Let's hope he returns to both 'Netweather' & 'TWO' forums very soon.
Thanks for that Yamkin! I hope he comes back soon..... it's just not the same without him!
Any thoughts from you on the upcoming 'cold spell'? I am trying really hard to learn by using the learners section here and reading the model thread but everything seems to be moving so fast!!
-
Oh dear, was hoping Steve M would be back by now, I love his posts!!
Paul S, Leigh Shrimper, MAF.... any of you care to comment on what's coming up?
(Not that I think anyone else is any less credible, just that I look out for these guys posts! Don't want to upset anyone!)
-
wow what a superb sun set.........
Exactly what I was about to say! Absolutely beautiful here
-
Chilly here too today. The highest the temp has got is 2.2 with a dew point of -2.9
Lovely bright sunshine though which is so nice after days of dull grey weather.
-
Hope he hasn't deserted us I always look forward to reading his posts and opinions.
-
The first chart is the percentage chance of seeing snow.
I would treat those charts with extreme caution though, they are good for giving a brief overview but should not be used as a snow forecasting tool this far out.
Stick to the radar and lampost!
Thanks for the reply!
I love lampost wactching, I'm also very glad I signed up for another month of NW radar now
-
I like those charts!
Just wondered if someone could explain the first chart though? I understand that on the second one the pink means snow, but with the first one, what do the reds/oranges/yellows etc mean?
Sorry if I'm being thick, new to all of this!
-
Anyone know where Steve M has been lately?
Would love to hear his opinions on what we can expect in the next couple of weeks. Have been reading the model thread but it all seems so up and down, and I'm far too inexperienced to understand most of it!
