Remarkable how quiet this place is
The Northern half of Britain is on the brink of the biggest snowfalls recorded in this country this winter and no one is posting
-
Safe to say a very cold and likely very snowy spell next week is 90% nailed on now that all of the big 3 are on board
Things seem to be upgrading by the day so I think that a spell of severe weather is coming that will make Dec/Jan seem tame
-
some of the more sober members will realise that this is the fourth consec week that an easterly is shown to affect us the following week on output beyond T144. enjoy the ride but dont tear up your tickets incase you need a refund <_<
Exactly
ATM it is just eye candy, refuse to get excited about it, it is still appearing at +96 then I will start getting excited but 10% chance of verifying IMO as this sort of thing has shown up so many times in FI and not happened
Will it get colder ? Yes Will there be an E or NE of sorts ? Probably is 1947 going to be revisited ? no chance
-
Absolutely spot on.
All these comments about spring coming and BBQs are relating to charts in FI!!! Why believe them any more than the GFS ones showing snow?
Only when we get model consensus at T96 will we get a true idea of what will happen.
The UKMO and GFS were poles apart on what is going to happen, the ECM needed to come on board with the GFS for snowmageddon to happen and instead it has sided with the UKMO so the GSM is out on a limb, I expect the 18z GFS to show 8ft of snow and 50ft drifts as it is the pub run but I think tomorrow the GFS will line up with the UKMO/ECM
-
So much for Feb 8th
Better buy charcoal briquettes from B+Q not a shovel
-
Game, set and match I think
Needed the ECM to come on board with the GFS and it hasn't and is siding more and more with the UKMO post +96
The GFS would cut off the entire country but it is destined to be nothing more than dreaming of Angelina Jolie while Pat Butcher is naked next to you
-
The GFS verifies then the army will be placed on standby surely ? we would be talking FEET of snow not inches
UKMO is horrible, one of them is going to lose all credibility by this time next week, hope it is the UKMO
-
Steve Murr just fainted, you beat him to it!
15 days ahead, might as well bin it, there has been so much flip flopping from the various charts about this easterly anything past 96hrs is deep FI tbh
No point getting excited over something 15 days ahead
-
I hate winter unless it snows, cold weather is my least favourite weather without the white stuff
I am very much looking forward to spring/summer now
-
Its still 168-240 hrs away and anything beyond 96 these days must be considered FI so I am not taking ECM 12z too seriously at the moment but if it comes off I hope there are enough of HM Forces that are not in Afghanistan as they are going to be needed here in the UK
Looks promising though, can't imagine an easterly from Siberia to Canada is going to disappear just like that
-
Hmmmmm could be some snow around at the end of the week, but we have to remember the days are getting alittle longer and the sun alittle stronger.
5 days time will be exactly a year since I got 15 inches of snow so if the precip is there there will be snow
-
That ECM 12z comes off it sure will be historic, will be talked about in the same sentence as 47 and 63
-
Looks like the severest snow of the winter for especially the northern half of Britain towards the end of next week with possibly feet of the stuff over the northern hills with drifting in gale force winds
What a shocking turnaround this morning.
-
If 6z verifies we are going to need our own snowploughs let alone shovels to dig us out of our drives and streets, levels of snow similar to what has been on the news in China
Truly staggering run but will cost me a lot of money
-
People said us younguns would get bored of the snow and cold eventually...well I haven't reached that point and I am very sad to see it all melt away! Hope it returns very soon.
You get days off school, what schoolkid doesn't love days off school ?
As someone who is a partner in a building company this spell has affected us badly, not been able to send workers out because of the dangers of snow and ice so jobs are massively behind schedule which is costing money particularly in on time completion bonuses so while you enjoy days off school to play ps3 and go sledging we are losing near on 10 grand a week
-
My heart wants 3ft of lying snow with 10ft drifts
My wallet is crying out for a bartlett high for the rest of the winter as this last week and the previous cold snap cost me a lot of money
-
Decent snowfall overnight after my earlier panic, woke up to around 6-7" of lying snow
-
I would say so now, I think you've gotten distracted with what's going on to your west, I'm directly beneath you (ooohh matron) and It's heading towards us now, give it a hour or so and time should tell.
You aren't my wife then she is always on top
But I hope you are right, that stuff forming over Eastbourne/Brighton gives me a bit more confidence especially if the bands merge
-
Slack winds and an onshore flow usually is a killer for coastal set-ups in more marginal set-ups, so yeah thats quite possible unless you get some heavy precip.
FWIW Friday looks most interesting on the fax charts, would expect some big falls from that sort of flow...
Also yep there is pretty much no chance this misses London, the whole lot pivots round...indeed this is already happening with the front now angled S-N.
Do you think we have a chance of snow here still ? S London
-
Check out the radar and you will see the swirl. Expect snow
Hope it gets to our way, am not very optimistic but never know
-
Dont be so negative....Always expect the unexpected with the British weather ! Thats the beauty of it xx
I am about 4 miles from you, looking on the NW postcode radar at the very best we will get that dark blue 0.5 as it heads up to the West
Just don't see any action our way tonight much as would love it
-
The may as well change my area back to green from red, total non event for here
-
Extreme Severe Weather Warning has been received here in the Croydon Borough. 10 inches min is expected over night into tomorrow and much more into the weekend and possibly into next week too
I need to re-post this EXTREME WEATHER WARNING as the Croydon Borough has been contacted again. We are in for a real hammering due to prolonged snowfall through to the weekend and can you believe this, possibly into next week :D :D :help: :help: :help: :help:
I am almost Croydon and no way are we getting even a mm tonight, that band is skirting up towards Heathrow then up into Herts, there won't even be 10mm in our area but hopefully will get some snow by Sunday
-
Its going to be gutting waking up tomorrow to green grass (pretty much confirmed now from the direction the band is going) while 10 miles to my west there is a foot of snow

As we have had successive non existent summers and a harsh bitingly cold winter I just want some warmth and some hot sun now, if we had nice hot summers then I would not begrudge a harsh winter but a cold summer like last year followed by a harsh winter in terms of cold gets a bit draining
Much as I love snow I just want warmth now
