Gutted! Just had a heavy hail shower, Nipped out again to check the depth and it's piggin raining! drainpipes gushing, mega thaw.
I give up and am off to bed to sulk
Hopefully tomorrow will be better?

Evening!
Just a quick question. We've had some decent snowfall here in Scarborough today (Around 9cm's). We've also had some potent showers tonight mainly of a wintry nature rather than snow.
I just nipped out to be greeted by the sound of dripping and thawing snow.
Temp at the moment is 1.6C with a dew point of 0.7C.
All the forecasts Iv'e checked range from -1C to a balmy +5C overnight!
Any ideas if and when the temp on the coast here is going to drop below freezing or are we just going to have an awful slushy affair with the cold spell!
-
Thunderstorm
Nice One!
Theres certainly some potency in the showers.
Iv'e just been outside and to my dissapointment it's thawing!! Still got 7cm's but the showers are adding nothing!
Any idea when the temp will drop here on the coast?
Temp now 1.7C

The snow has just arrived here P.M. There doesn't appear to be any sleetiness, but it's very light atm
Joys of been on the coast I think. I'm still surprised at the temp. still 1.4C. You must be colder being that bit further inland. Anyhow you're in for a treat if you catch the showers that we got, they were quite heavy at times.
-
Showers getting heavy and more frequent. Unfortunately they're more of a wintry mix than snow.
Temp 1.4C dewpoint 0.2C.
-
That weather out to the East at mo is now looking very good especially as its get closer. Another 1hr or so
and some ones in for it.
Hopefully us!
Out of curiosity whats your temp and dew point at the mo?
-
Those showers in the North Sea are looking very tasty indeed
Don't they just! Theres some real intensity in them. Hudsons forecast was another cracker. Slightly concerned about rain forecast right over Scarborough though. I noticed it once tonight and in tomorrows forecast too.
Iv'e checked and see 850hpa's of at least -7C and a dam of well below 520. I can't seem to find a forecast for dew points though, do they exist? I notice ground temps of around +2C which is a little dissapointing.
Any thoughts? Current temp +1.4C with dew point of +0.1C.

Looks like alot of snow heading into Yorkshire this evening, worried about temp though as its 1.9 and dew point
is 0.6. Hope this improves soon as the 4" we had is thawing rapidly.
Seems to be dropping now mate, I have 1.1C and DP 0.2C. That last shower added another 2 cm's. We now have 9cm's In Osgodby. Hopefully more overnight! Theres some well intense showers on the radar, Hope they head this way!
-
Iv'e not been able to get online all afternoon and have just checked the radar! I'm amazed! All that shower activity peppering the East coast and Iv'e seen nothing! I spoke to family in town (About 3 miles away) and they've had heavy snow showers all afternoon!
Can't be long now. I can confirm a slight thaw here with max temp of 2.1C, It was only melting on cars and trees though and the temp is dropping away now at 1.1C.
Should be an interesting night!
-
Just been out and measured 7cm's On the drive here in Osgodby since 3am and It's started to snow lightly as I type.

Word of warning, don't take any notice of the 5 days and them type of forecasts with the Metoffice.
Lewis
I'm giving up with most of these computer model generated forecasts! The most accurate I've had is from the NW forecasters and you guys on here! I'll stick with that I think!
-
lol 5c max temp? sorry but who does your forecast rofl.
Im glad you have got a lot of snow
Lewis
Haha! Metoffice mate,
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/scarborough_forecast_weather.html
Thats at 3.00 tomorrow morning with sleet showers. I must say I'm surprised at the forecast of no showers even here on the coast today. I think I'll watch the radar! After all we were forecast light rain only 6 hours ago and now we have 3 inches of laying snow!
It's stopped here now and thick fog has set in.
The radar is showing some beefy showers just north of Newcastle heading our way. I'll keep an eye on it!
Temp -0.4 and my dew point has knackered again showing -175C Grrrr!
-
WOW! What was I worried about. I'd given up last night and was looking forward to the showers. Woke up to a whiteout with 3inches of laying snow! It's still coming down heavy, Schools closed and the main routes here into Scarborough are impassable. Theres a deadly silence!
On the other hand were forecast just light showers now and a max temp of 5C tonight so it won't be around for long. Any thoughts on this?
Pics coming soon
-
I'll take that forecast! Certainly can't complain! Good old Hudson!

I may be wrong but looking at the GFS the East Coat has very light PPN, which would probably result in nothing at all. And even if it did result into some very light PPN it would probably be rain as dew points aren't favourable for the east coast. As the PPN moves further south it moves further east so in time the east coast may get something, probably from Grimsby south are likely to see something wintry. Nearer the time it will become clearer, and it wouldn't take much for the PPN to move further east, but as it stands It looks like anywhere along the east coast from Grimsby North are unlikely to see anything from the band of snow. The latest BBC forecast does support this.
Is it going to warm up that much because I have a temp of -2.2C with a dew point of -4.2C at the moment. (Osgodby, Scarborough, About 200mtrs from the coast!)
-
I would say your fine being further North on the coast, it may fall as sleet/wet snow for a time for most areas in East Yorkshire, or it may be snow from the start, it all depends. We now know by the models whats happening, so it's a case of now casting and keeping an eye on your conditions at the time, dew point is important it could be the only stumbling block IMHO.
The precipitation is expected to hit around 5am in the morning, given the temp is still at 0c here, they will quickly drop off again tonight for all areas, i can honestly say that i doubt temps will recover much tomorrow even when the precipitation hits.
Lewis
Cheers Mate,
Temp -2C already here with Dew point of-4.2C! The dew point on my weather station has fixed itself just in time! I was getting -175.5C this morning. Hope it holds out because it's fairly vital I'm guessing!
Just been asked If I have any good pictures to use as next years St Catherines hospice Christmas card so hopefully some cracking winter scenes coming up!

Shows freezing all week too me in Hull,
Lewis
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/scarborough_forecast_weather.html
Do you think these temps will be upgraded then Lewis? Otherwise I'm gonna start worrying about margins again!
On tonights affair? ITV Had sleet over us and for tomorrow! (Hardly the most reliable forecast mind!).
Are we going to miss out on the coast?
-
Freezing cold last night! Temp dropped to -5.8C and I had to prize the back door open this morning as it had frozen.
Temp now -3.5C.
Metoffice have the band of PPN falling as snow at first but then warming up to 3C and rain! Any thoughts?
I'm not too concerned as it's snowfest after that!
Another point though. They have us forecast for snow but the temps are surprising! daytime max of 4C and not below freezing even at night for the whole week. Thats warmer than the last 2 weeks! I'm confused!
Any input appreciated!

Really looking forward to next week now!
After yesterdays dissapointing rain todays been a cracker. frequent moderate snow showers all day. The last couple giving a good covering even to main roads.
We had a nice trip to Whitby over the NYM this morning with some cracking views. Got caught in one of the showers though and had to turn back as it got a bit ropey!
Any more showers tonight?
Meto have us for Light snow showers from Tuesday onwards but heavy inland any thoughts on this?
I'm sure it will change anyway after seeing the Countryfile forecast and reading the model topic.
Temp now 0.0C with dew point of -175.2C!! (Damn weather station broke again!!)
-
WOW, the Countryfile forecast was breathtaking
Wasn't it just!
NOW I'm excited!
Lovely light snow here now. Big feathery flakes. Just got back from Whitby and it was a little tricky on the moors with moderate snow.
Temp 1.5C.
-
What a mixed bag! Started the day at -4C. Started with sleet at around 14.00 which quickly turned to rain and washed away most of yesterdays laying snow. Temp then was 2.2C.
Now light snow with a temp of 1.6C and a dew point of 0.4C. Ground soaked though so it's gonna have to pep up significantly for anything to settle.
-
Really chucking it down with rain now. All the snow i had has gone.
Madness! I'm 3 miles down the road and had no rain. Fair enough not much snow (about 2cm's) but it was a cold night. I woke up at 4.30 to an alarm I didn't recognise. After stumbling about for a while I realised it was my weather station alarming because temp had dropped below -4.5C!
Temp now -3.4C, with dew point -4.4C (fixed itself )

Well I might dig out the shorts and t-shirt! We must be the warmest in Europe! Temp 2.8C! Steady thaw overnight, Just 3-4 cm's left now! I do hope John was right and the temp will drop this morning because it's all a slushy mess!
That said the wind has picked up and there is a notable wind chill.
Off to work I go, enjoy the snow those who have it!
