  1. Looking good for Saturday night here in northwest Norfolk, just wondering if there's any potential tonight for those of us in this neck of the woods? Is the feature heading from the east tonight likely to affect this far northwest of Norfolk.
  2. Horrible dull grey day from sunrise to sunset here in North Norfolk. Temp hasn't gone above 3.5 c all day so I guess that's a sign something may be on the way. Current weather Grey cloud Temp 2.5 c Windchill 2.5c Dewpoint -0.1c Relevant pressure 1050Hpa Wind 3.8 mph, gust 6mph Humidity 83% I have just bought this weather station from maplin, 2 options for pressure are absolute or relevant and its measured in Hpa. Is it best to keep it set to relevant or absolute pressure? Regards
  3. i've been looking at the fax charts, unfortunatley i'm useless at reading them. from what i understand the thick black lines are troughs/disturbances. Looking at the fax for 12pm saturday (t+84) it shows one of these clipping the north norfolk coast. If it does hit, is it likely to be snow? regards
  4. well im fed up with looking at the free radar on meteox/ metoffice/ norwegian weathersite (www.yr.no (quite good if u understand norwegian like myself) As they are free they aren't much help for weather in my local area, do many of you use the netweather radar?? and would you recommend it?? im thinking of getting a 1 month subscription to see what it's like
  5. im assuming by the bbc forcasts and posts on here that we in norfolk are going to miss out on this weekend's possible snow event?? exactly the same as last week, beeb and everyone ramp it up for our area and in the last 24-36 hours the forcast completely changes hope everyone down south enjoys the weekends snow.
  6. good to see someone using the norwegian radar on yr.no i have family in trondheim and southern norway, my cousin in trondheim was at -21c the other night. according to them -41c had been recorded further north in norway. they are having extreme cold this winter, but, unlike us, they are prepared for it! Is this system just off the norfolk coast travelling in a southwesterly direction?? hope so, as i should be in the firing line
  7. well im in an area 6 miles inland from wells-next-the-sea, north norfolk. i can confirm that we have some snow falling at the moment, no lamp posts to watch though and i cant find a torch to point out of the window either. looking at the metoffice radar previously posted it looks as if it might be our turn for some snow now ( cant be too greedy as we had major disruption around here before xmas ) would anybody be able to tell me what time to expect this feature just off the norfolk coast to really get going?? as i said last night, i have no faith in the bbc/met office at the moment. metoffice is saying sunny spells for us, bbc is saying sleet on the 24 hour forecast but light snow when you look at thursday on the 5 day forcast. I dont know what to believe anymore 00z coming out soon
  8. can't begin to explain how "cheesed off" I am with how this snow event has panned out. we must have some sort of barrier around norfolk stopping any precipitation from coming here. I had high expectations for this event HERE until everything went downhill about 2 days ago. we remain 1 of 5 counties in the uk to have weather advisories......... means we'll get nothing cold and dry, what a waste.... I think im going to give up watching bbc forcasts/bbc website/metoffice website from now on, cant be trusted met office predictions BBQ SUMMER = WRONG MILD WINTER = WRONG i'll make my own guess on the weather when i get up in the morning, probably just as accurate as any bbc forcast that reverses every 3 hours WHINGE OVER, at least it's cold instead of the constant atlantic dominated winters that im used to.
  9. we have 2-3cm of fresh snow here in stanhoe, north norfolk. hoping to get a little more (very likely at some point this week) We have a shallow duck pond in the village and the ducks normally keep a small area clear of ice by swimming in circles all day/night (not a joke LOL), its so cold that it has completely frozen over and the ducks are without water. Looks like i will have to go with the spade to clear some ice tommorow for them. the phenomenal thing is the temps we are getting, met/bbc progged -2c for my area at 18z today, current temp is -6.2c! (2 metres above ground) cant imagine what the minimums could get to over the weekend/next week, if the north easterly verifies then we will get some severe cold in the region. I have family in southern norway and they are even moaning about the cold this year, and that same air will be flooding toward us. just a random question, does anybody know whether we have additives in diesel fuel to stop it from freezing/going sludgy like they do on the continent?? could become a problem with the continuing cold spell if we dont! michael
  10. temp here in north norfolk (near fakenham) has not risen above 0c since thursday and we have 5-6 inches of snow still laying around. I see met office/bbc are now giving severe weather warnings for sleet/snow/rain but no mention of how much we'll get (if any) would any of you experienced model watchers/forecasters/weather enthusiasts be able to shed some light on tonights possible event?? would i be likely to get more snow? is this a very marginal event tonight? your views/experience would be very helpful as i have to go to work tonight! (16 mile drive on minor roads and i have no 4x4) many thanks
  11. another 3-4 inches of snow has fallen here, bringing my total to around 9-10 inches. will get the ruler out in the morning. turned to sleet on the back edge and temp rose to 0.5c temps now falling again does anyone know about the possible snow event on tuesday?? i see it shows heavy snow on both bbc website and metoffice for tuesday. BUT THERE AREN'T EVEN ANY ADVISORIES, LET ALONE WARNINGS FOR IT. if anyone could shed some light on this for me it would be great to know, cant even watch weatherview at 2am because the sky dish is covered in snow :/ i work in the pub trade at the moment and this weather has knocked our business for six, its dead when we should be heaving!! waiting to start with norfolk constabulary, their driving course must be shocking as the local station has written off 3 cars since thursday lol.
  12. Here's a few of my pics from Colkirk, Norfolk. (Near Fakenham, just off A1065) I have to say i've never experienced a night like last night, i was very worried for my safety. my friend and i were working late and began our journey at 10pm, we finally arrived back at his at 3:15am! (a journey of only 7 miles along minor roads) we experienced horizontal snow, lightning, and gale force winds which led to powerlines across the roads (still live and sparking!), trees and hedges uprooted and some of the biggest snow drifts i have personally seen (i'm only 22 so havent really experienced a "proper winter" as my dad calls it) we got within 3 miles of my friends house before we finally ran out of luck with the punto, we done a good job of getting it stuck in a huge drift. so we continued our journey by foot and came across an elderly couple stuck in their micra. we ended up walking this couple home as they had no torch or proper clothing. Norfolk police done a fine job of writing-off a police car by ditching it and the fire service got stuck on a call out to a fire near dereham. I have NEVER experienced such weather and will think twice before i travel in it again (unless i take a landrover defender or something) these pics are from my mobile during daylight, i will post the night time photos when i manage to get to my friends house again soon. MORE PICS TO COME!
  13. all in all im very pleased with what the models are suggesting and the latest forecasts on bbc, though it does seem they change on an hourly basis!! hopefully we will see a little snow here in north west norfolk. not looking forward to the wind this afternoon, im window cleaning on the sea front at hunstanton and its going to be raw. (bbc suggesting windchill of -4) may need someone to peel me off the aluminium ladder on the 2nd floor lol
  14. another winter and another time i've lost my netweather sign in details so im on i.d number 3 LOL. thought i would be helpful and post a link to the roadside weather stations that local council's and the highway agency use. My link Im in north norfolk, only 6 miles from the weatherstation on the a148 at harpley. hoping to do very well over the next few days, im lucky enough to be in one of the highest parts of norfolk ( we call it high LOL) from what everybody has been saying, forums, metoffice, bbc etc etc, im guessing that east anglia is a favoured spot for snow over the next few days. but can someone clarify something for me, are there parts of norfolk that are likely to get the 5-10cm of snow the met office are forecasting??? past experience tells me that whenever the met/bbc put weather warnings out for snow we normally end of with sweet f.a. thank you
