There was one bonkers GFS run that had 40C temps and 0C dew points. Would have been a RH of just 8%.

But with the breeze and low dew points tomorrow, it will be extremely dangerous in terms of fires. Be careful with any BBQs.

Most of England is under Exceptional fire risk tomorrow according to the Met Office - Fire Risk

Don't look at that often, but not sure its ever gone that high before.

I am very disappointed by that Met Office red warning.

While I appreciate the hills to the west, Peak District etc will be cooler, to not have the city centre within the warning area is a huge oversight.

You are right, there needed to be a gap for the Pennines, but it's a bit too big on the Eastern side. Sheffield and Bradford both should have been in the red area.

I agree that the vast majority of people can cope with high temperatures, and without wanting to sound bias due to weather preference, I believe extreme cold to be MUCH more threatening

However, high heat can be threatening to a low percentage of people that have severe respiratory illness. It can be the last trigger that is needed to take them from a bad condition, to death.

Being honest though, it should not be an ‘emergency’ event. I find that a little extreme

Not just respiratory. I believe the biggest risk is from people with heart issues, once the temperature gets above 37C. It's also a factor once the temperature goes below 0C, but that's a lot easier to deal with in the UK.

  4. Serious situations still on going it seems, parts of Ironbridge are being evacuated as modelling is predicting the flood defences will be breached tonight. But currently Derby is flooding and its only 15cm off their record, but the stations data is an hour old, so could well have already been topped. For a storm that was named late, and only had yellow warnings on England its done a lot of damage to a lot of it.

Rather telling as well is Derby wasn't predicted to be as bad as it is, so the EA's models got it wrong there, hopefully they have got it wrong the other way in Ironbridge and the defences hold.

Wind is starting to pick up more here now has anyone else noticed? Last hour or so just relatively windy, only now its start to ramp up. Very worrying night with sodden ground, will quite easily pull trees down...

Wind isn't meant to get going till after midnight. Way its looking could well be 70 mph gusts here, which given as you say with the rain sodden ground its likely there to be a lot of trees and other things damaged.

Morning Cowdog, I've seen the warnings and everything but out of interest, where have you found the Boxing day levels info from? Thanks.

From EA's website. E.g. Here is Hebden Bridge -

    CHECK-FOR-FLOODING.SERVICE.GOV.UK

Check the latest recorded river level and recent 5-day trend at Hebden Bridge

Records are at the bottom of each page, which for almost all stations around here is the Boxing day floods.
