It never got to north of stoke I hope you all had fun down south.
That's really unlucky, would've thought it'd make it's way up to you from here or somewhere
-
Absolutely chucking down in Shrewsbury, heaviest this winter!!! Getting thick now
-
Is it the GFS predicting the 920mb low?
I dread to think if that hapenned, devestation...
The GFS usually overplays atlantic lows and no cross model agreement yet
-
It's delivered more snow time wise than Friday
Won't be a surprise to the people of Shrewsbury, we're a dry place compared to alot in the country, low lying alot of protection from hills so westerly's often weaken here and pep up again to the east
Really is snowing heavy now, a great day for longevity of snow falling
-
I said on the last thread it was just dying out
It's belting down again!!
-
MO have it snowing in Shrewsbury till 9am
I can't see it tbh maybe till midnight, which would still be incredible and would be 14 hours non stop snow
That's unheard of here!!
Most roads are fine and passable bar a few cul-de-sacs but they are fine with care
Shame about the thaw yesterday and midday today
Deepest parts at probably 4 inches (guesswork!)
Paths probably a level inch or 2
Edit: as I type it's just starting to die out
Keep going!!!
-
And still it snows in Shrewsbury
Light and snizzly atm but that's 8 hours snow of sorts non stop
-
Light stuff now here
Scope to pep up again this evening
-
It's hard to say how much snow we've had so far today
Almost 7 hours straight snow now (so longer than Friday!)
I'd say the deepest in the garden is at 4 inches, today has just piled on top
Where the thaw has happened on the roads ad paths and other parts probably 0.5/1 cm
Lots more to come!!
-
Yes there were several years with little or no lying snow in Shrewsbury in the 90s and early 00s; certainly anyone born round here around 1996 or 97 hardly saw any decent snow till they were about 10!
I was born 1993 can't remember many good ones before 09, obviously there will be some but I was too young to remember!
-
Think it'll be transient between light/heavy all evening now, lighter atm but alot of lamp post watching to start in an hour
-
How great is it to see the kids enjoying themselves though?
Growing up in the 90's 00's we were lucky to get snow like this for a single day a winter up here, some winters none at all
09 onwards really has been much better and it's great to see snowmen and sledging and people having fun
-
It looks like even further NW from here are gonna get a pasting!
Oswestry, Wrexham maybe, looking mental!
-
Heaviest of the snow over western Shropshire for once e.g Shrewsbury which is nice to see as you guys suffer even worse than us in Telford usually
Am slightly jealous! just snizzly polystyrene balls here.
Cheers mate
Yeah it's piling down atm tiny flakes but it's all good!
Looking at our respective forecasts it seems we'll have heavy till midnight, you guys just light so hopefully it'll improve for you!
-
Yep that's 5.5 hours snow
It's now the heaviest of the day and sticking again
-
Getting bad in Shrewsbury now!
Heavy blowing snow in the wind, small flakes
Sticking on minor roads and cars again atlast! As expected the temp has dropped to 0 from 0.8
Could be an interesting evening!
-
Just starting to stick again now after a couple of very frustrating hours. Temp at Shawbury has been randomly fluctuating a few tenths either side of freezing for over 24 hours, wish it would make it's mind up preferably in the minus direction. Still far more of a thaw yesterday and early today than you'd expect in such temps, I'm sure the ground is abnormally warm due to lack of frost and low minima.
The thaw has been surprising this weekend, it so cold out there but that might be the wind chill!
I've hit a max of 0.8 today
You may be correct Dec 2010 we hit -14 one night I believe. What's the coldest this spell? -5? Still mighty cold but it's not built up in to mega cold
You're right it has been a waste of 3 hours snow! But it's heavier again now and just maybe starting to stick again
-
Heavier in Shrewsbury now. Been snowing for 4.5 hours
Topped up a few areas a little, too mild to stick in alot of places so dissapointing. Had it stuck I reckon it'd be 2/3 inches on top of the 1/2 inches max we've got
Really hope 4pm onwards sees it kick off here, should be getting colder and heavier
Will update temperature in a mo
-
Still not sticking temp still at 0.8
-
I was harping on yesterday about the MO app showing snow all day
Everyone seemed so negative
What I've learnt this spell is the MO forecast is bang on within 48 hours normally, they revised yesterdays potential and upgraded todays, and that's bang on
-
Difference from Friday
That snow was dry and couldn't make snowballs
Today's is very wet and sticky thus not sticking when falling to wet surfaces
-
Been snowing in Shrewsbury to varying degrees for almost 3 hours
Settled well initially, been melting for the last 1.5 hours though.
It's forecast to get heavier later so hopefully will settle but everywhere is soaking wet
Temperature at 0.9 Celsius
Snow is still falling well
Maybe start sticking soon
Drifts in rare places at 10 inches
Max depth about 2/3 inches widely 1cm
-
After a promising morning, it might aswell be raining now as all the snow is vanishing!!!
-
The snow that stuck earlier is melting, still snowing though
