  4. Makes you wonder when it will ever end ! Not the end of the world but not a great Christmas for people who's homes are flooded
  5. Very worrying to hear people are driving into flood water... Just two feet of water is enough to float a car and six inches of fast flowing water can knock you off your feet. Flood water also contains hidden dangers such as open manhole covers.... ......please all take care out there and don't take any risks
  6. I'd like to wish the NW members and all on the forum team a very merry Christmas.... .....and a happy new year, lets hope 2013 is a good one ! Ali x
  7. Yes, please stay safe .... Just two feet of water is enough to float a car and six inches of fast flowing water can knock you off your feet. Flood water also contains hidden dangers such as open manhole covers !
  8. Is that for the last end of the world or the next one do you think ? I don't get the panic buying, the shops are only closed for one day I've made sure I have plenty of food and drink but what I don't understand is why people buy so many loaves of bread and pints of milk for Christmas....It's not what I'm going to be eating and drinking that's for sure
  9. Yes, very worrying Chris...there is just nowhere left for the water to go ! River Great Ouse flood warnings in Buckinghamshire A flood warning has been issued for the Great Ouse in Buckinghamshire, as river levels continue to rise. The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a warning for a stretch of the river in Newport Pagnell after rainfall on Thursday. Areas near to North Bridge and Woad Farm are at risk. The agency said further rainfall is expected on Saturday, and it would be monitoring the situation. A spokesman said: "River levels have peaked in Brackley and Buckingham and river levels are still rising slowly at Newport Pagnell." Milton Keynes Council said it had a crew on standby with sandbags. http://www.bbc.co.uk...-herts-20808222

Given that the ground is already saturated, the public should be aware of the risk of further localised flooding. The rain should largely clear away northeastwards on Sunday morning. This warning has been updated to include the rest of eastern England. Issued at: 1126 on Sat 22 Dec 2012 Please also refer to the amber warnings where the risk of disruption is greater. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?regionName=uk&from=rss&sn=8BE05C36-F4B8-FBEB-EB12-B83D09B3709D_7_SE&tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-4.50&lat=55.74&fcTime=1356091260

  15. I didn't know they had said a precise time….. but even so, Mayan time is later than UK time - they were much further east so I guess that would make it sometime in the afternoon not 11:11am which means I have time to do the grocery shopping first then
  16. Morning all, I see we are still here so the world hasn't ended yet then ? Some serious issues with flooding though, river levels won't have peaked yet and with more rain due on Saturday it's not looking good - thankfully it should have stopped raining by Christmas day but it might be too late to save some property, hopefully there won't be loss of life and everyone will listen to the warnings and evacuate if necessary. Please keep checking the EA site for your area here http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31618.aspx and don't take any chances driving through flood water take another route if possible. It's not looking good for Newport Pagnell but most of MK is protected from serious flooding to property by the balancing lakes like Willen which is one of the largest (400,000 m²) purpose-built storm water balancing lakes in the UK. The lake is designed to take surface run-off from Milton Keynes, the largest of a number of lakes here designed to do so. The lake has capacity for an additional level increase of 1.3 metres, equivalent to a once in 200 year’s event....hopefully it will be enough ! .......take care all and stay dry, well on the outside anyway
  17. Residents of a Hampshire village have been urged to evacuate their homes as heavy rainfall continues to spread across the UK - with more than 270 flood alerts and warnings in place. The Environment Agency (EA) said a severe flood warning for Wallington prompted the need for an evacuation notice. It said: "Wallington Village next to River Wallington will be evacuated imminently by Fareham Borough Council and the emergency services. "This is due to a problem in the flood defence around the village. The river is currently just below the top of the defence and cracks have formed in the wall. The river level is very high and will remain so for some time. The wall has cracks in it and may fail." http://news.sky.com/...d-alerts-spread In addition to the severe flood warning for Wallington, the EA has issued dozens of flood warnings and over 200 flood alerts for England and Wales.
