  1. Angers just forecast snow for BTL, Bath and NE Somerset, but then on his graphics it looked v.marginal. However, Glos and SE Wales a direct hit.

Defo a nowcast situ tom afternoon and eve for many of us. The Glos crowd looks like they're in for an interesting evening.

EDIT: Be good to see an update from Ian later - just got a feeling it'll be going up to the Midalnds and into Wales

white out for bristol i will take that bonus thank you:drinks:

  2. Just seen your post above Ian

Looks as though the exeter-gang have pretty similar thoughts, though understandably at this range hedging their bets a little with regards to PPN type - id expect to see forecasts more towards sleet/snow with less mention of the word rain over the coming days

Incidentally just thought I should point out IF this spell comes off then the CFS long range model picked up this sort of trend back at the start of november as I began compiling my longer range thoughts. Could well be useful in the future as they work on the model more and more

well here we are again with the threat of some snow action later on next week for me im here in bristol up till next friday then going to essex until the monday so i guess i will have a good look on the way up the m4 @ m25 of which places have the most snow from west to east im looking forward to it hopefully we will get somthing and the models are looking very promising so fingers crossed:drinks:

  3. Thought? Well 2nd week in Feb is a long way off but as everone points out this is emerging as more like our winters of old. Contrary to popular legend they were not all continuously cold (only the very rare ones) and SW still missed much of the snow. However, as we are influenced by Sea Temps and as these continue to fall until late Feb, the chance of snow here tends always to be strongest in Feb or even March.

I would not like to bet on the second week but would think there are still strong odds for the second or third week in Feb.

This is not science or a trend in the charts so far out, merely what we might have seen 20 to 30 years ago. Over the past 20 years in Dorset we have had more settled snow in Feb onwards than before Feb. In one memorable year (forget which one, about 6 years ago) we were swimming in the sea and sunbathing in March and two weeks later having snowball fights!

all sounds like fun to me and i have to say over the past 3-4 days the models seem to be sticking to this theme and like you said feb is usually our money month just like it was last year so lets drink to that :shok::blink:

  4. If we see a series of cold winters over the NH and even more importantly cool summers, we will see the Arctic ice slip south over the coming years.

It is, interestingly, the cooler summers and not necessarily the colder winters that cause ice ages... whistling.gif

just to get off this topic for a minute ive just logged in to ask opinions on what could be coming up in the 2nd wek in feb looks bitterley cold with a very intense HP building and slipping westwards from scandi any thoughts on this possible event?? cheers

  5. On the other hand, the GFS has the ppt. stalling further SW, making it a Devon and Pembrokeshire event

Hi Western Snows :whistling: Bit lonely in here this evening.. I'm not yet convinced we will see snow either but I'll be keeping an eye on it tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if we have rain on low ground and wet snow about about 150m.

hi jt yes its all gone a lil quite for now but like you sed worth keeping an eye on just in case but i think we got more chance of something in the last week of the month with the colder easterlie winds. lots of the model runs do suggest it and are quite consistant day to day on this so fingers crossed

  6. Well the latest NAE plonks a 14 over Cheltenham, by 6pm on Wednesday.

    But 14mm of what?

well if todays temps are anything to go by then rain i just cant see how the cold air is gonna get this far down. for me it looks more like the midlands across east anglia and the north east but we shall see i guess.

I'm yet to be convinced we will see much snow in Cheltenham, but I won't be surprised if there's snow on the hills.

Nevertheless, Ian's latest update looks interesting:

    latest_snow-estimation_wed.jpg

OK as it comes out - T+36 on the NAE shows rain turning to snow by 6am on Weds

  7. I like it! :whistling:

we all know once the mighty ATLANTIC gets into full flow nothing can stop it not even 1055mb HP coming in from siberia. the atlantic is the most brutal force on earth and can swat its enemies with the minium of fuss when and where it likes. i mean look at the facts the door was only slightly ajar for the atlantic to come back in across us but it was enough and the sheer power of it did the rest now we have temps of around 8-10c genrerally in the south. has soon has that blocking high moved in the north atlantic it was in across the uk like a rat down a drain pipe it pounced with a predators instinct and in minutes the oppisition were destroyed. and we need that block back more than the siberian high otherwise the MIGHTY ATLANTIC will dominate the rest of our winter. i guess the only saving grace is the bitter air aint that far away so its always got a chance to push back in for 1 final hoorah thats if the atlantic feels in a generous mood that is.:whistling:

  8. Lmao, very good adaptations of weather forces.

never right off the awesome power of the ATLANTIC MACHINE it can be totally devasting when it wants to be by the way just wondering what all ya thoughts are on this thing in the channel dont think this was forecasted today looks interesting. oh and by the way yes i live in bristol and we had loads of snow last night but im off to essex friday so any update on there weather would be good for the weekend cheers:drinks:

  9. Thats moved about 100miles in the last 3 hours, so its going no were fast. I fear it will be rain if it makes landfall down here.

    Temp 1.4C and DP 1.3C

too true matt but its still movin quicker than that bloody thing we had yesterday i mean around 3pm it was just gettin into bristol area and by 11 pm it was just gettin into the birmingham area thats like 90 miles in 8 hrs major slow.

  10. Hi , the only reason i came into your thread is to get your opinions on that low to the west of france , iv watched it most the day and it does seem to be heading towards plymouth and the south west , dont think its forecas but i no what the radar tells me and at min it has your name on it .

    Comments welcome . Thanks

yes this will be a right turn up for the books if this little cutie comes our way coz in rugby terms its crept up on the blind side and ready to go over for a great try for us. ian are you there? give us ya view on this plz:cc_confused:

  11. I think around midweek next week we could be looking at another cold spell.

But its too far away to tell a the moment.

Lets get this weekend of warm air over with and start looking then.

( Well, i say warm... Just above 0c air lol )

well lets hope so just wondering if there will be any snow left by then maybe on the hills lets see.:(

Ohhhhhhh! Come on you beauty! :(

yes come to daddy darling let me hug you all night over bristol and the west country lmao:rolleyes:

  12. Heavy snow here currently. Looks like its the very last bit to move over us.

    Goodgame yall.

Signal is strong for another colder spell in the next week or so.

Maybe this warming up will be a small blip in the cold.

i was just about t ask this ive seen charts that suggest into tuesday wednesday theres a chance of some snow has it turns colder again from the east odes anyone know if theres any truth in this? also its tuesday into wednesday again ring anybells?:yahoo:

  13. Do you get gas up there Jase?

Thaw has set in here to, bit of rock and walls are appearing that were buried, still masses around though, very wet under trees where all the snow has melted, fallen on to other snow and made that all wet and nasty.

Still, the blowtorch should dry all that up this weekend, and we can crack out the bbq! :drinks:

snow still falling in bristol massive flakes must be 6 inches or so on the ground built countless snowmen just rolling the snow up like a carpet its so deep and thick this is great:drinks:

  14. The latest radar seems to show the ppn building ever so slightly as it passes the IOW, but the ppn is still moving very slowly, so it is a case of nowcasting/lampost/radar watching to see how it goes, but the front seems to be getting organised again, so we shall see.

Wind has picked up a lot in the past few mins here.

plenty of snow here nice covering and still hammering down bit dodgy at the footie though between bristol city and cardiff:girl_devil:

  15. Although a "Dorset peep", I'm in Nottingham at the moment, so likely to be about as much use to you as a chocolate teapot in this situation. :(

Still, at least you guys are actually likely to see weather (and alcohol, in Matt's case), this thing's barely gonna make it to us! :(

i must admit its starting to drag its heels still nothing yet in bristol and yet according to the radar its been knocking on our doorstep for the last hour:cc_confused:
