  1. -5C here when I checked at 0630 hrs. Snow packed ice paths and side roads everywhere. Rain on top of this lot will be treacherous for road users. I've seen a lot of the valleys over the past few days and have been wondering the same thing about the Met Office temps and the actual temps around snow covered South Wales.

I always thought warm air goes up over cold air and rain that falls through cold enough air, turns to snow. Are we actually going to return to mild weather so quick that it just rains?

  2. BBC Forecast just said this weather is going to have a 'sting in its tail' on Friday when some milder weather moves in from the Atlantic bringing 'potentially' very disruptive snow before it 'the big thaw' starts.

I love the snow but I can't wait to see the back of it to be honest.....I'm getting fed up with digging out pathways and cars. Backbreaking work.....

Bring on the big MELT asap

  3. I think the BBC downplayed the snow for Wales last night using the word showers and only mentioned 'something a little more significant' moving in later on in the afternoon.

Well, I'm in Cwmbran and we've already had over an inch of snow AGAIN and it's going to be treacherous driving today. Snow on top of packed ice isn't a good mix.

I won't be sending my kids to school today looking at the radar and I doubt they'll be going in tomorrow now looking at what's approaching the South coast for later....

I love the BBC but they got it wrong....

  4. Cwmbran at 14:14hrs ;

    Currently 2.7C : Dewpoint -2.1C : 969.8mb : Humidity 70%

Possibility of further and maybe significant snow to develop across South and South east Wales in the early hours of Tuesday, giving accumulations of anything between 2cm to 10 cm's, dependant on your location and altitude.

Also early signs of a warm up / thaw setting in over the coming weekend

  5. Don't forget that even though it looks like the front will soon clear, it will get picked up the southeast flow which is the direction it will start to orientate from so there's plenty yet to come. As it stands, the snow is expected to continue across much of Wales until at least Saturday morning, still over 24 hours away.

Now that's the sort of intelligent post I like to read.....lol....especially the last sentence....bring it on

  6. Well, I got up at 0230hrs and had a look out of the window and there was nothing so went back to bed...in a 'snowless huff'.

Something made me at stir at 0430 (probably the inner excitement in me waiting to throw itself out and start making snow angels)

I looked out the window and it's now blanketed us here in West Pontnewydd.

    It's blowing, it's snowing...and it aint going.....

    Current temps 0.2C

    Dew Point now -2.2C

    Pressure 999.9

    Humidity 83%

I'm expecting minimum 20 cm's of snow to fall here in Cwmbran today. I want 30 cm's but that's just being plain 'ole greedy....ah what the heck...now I want 40cm's of deep snow....

I promised my youngest daughter I would take her and the dogs out this morning for a run around....looking at the way it is now, I've had second thoughts. I think I might just cook us a nice greasy fry up and sit gazing out into the garden all day and twitching the curtains.

It's going to be one of those days when every weather forecast on BBC News 24 gets watched and I go 'shhhh' to anyone who dares speak when it's on.

This is the first time I've posted on here for a long long time and if you wonder why it's because I've been keeping a low profile. Take a look here http://www.hackergate.co.uk and you'll know why I've not wanted to attract any attention.

Anyway, it's nice to be back. Great to see Andy Music's excitement 'flourishing' around the regional threads ...... anyone know if Cwmbran Eira and Jay from Cardiff still about ?

Have a great day everyone and taker my advice, don't start snowball fights, they will always end up in tears....and bloodshot eyes.
