  1. Wow. I'd say about half of those show the low as 930mb or lower. Very worrying times ahead!

These charts are absolute insanity. Never seen anything like them in my 22 years of living and even on archives that go way back.

Will be devastating consequences if these hit as bad as they are looking now.

Yep, unfortunately I have to agree, completely off the scale maps. Been closely watching the models for about 15 years and can't remember seeing anything like this.....lets hope they weaken a lot over the next few runs, particularly for us in the NW. Last Wednesday was bad enough here but it would be a light breeze in comparisonPosted Image

  2. We have funnel.. We actually have funnel.. this been the best day whooop :D

That was some storm in the Antrim area......forks stretching right across the sky, ground-shaking thunder.

Rare intensity for this part of the world, it was more like something from the US midwest!

Well done on spotting the funnel, missed that one myself.

There is another batch heading this way but it doesn't look to be electrified at the moment.

  3. Warnings finally out for Wales now - took their time - looks a beast coming towards us

Wales: Blaenau Gwent Bridgend Caerphilly Carmarthenshire Conwy Gwynedd Merthyr Tydfil Neath Port Talbot Pembrokeshire Powys Rhondda Cynon Taff Torfaen

    Heavy Rain1535 Thu 152359 Thu 15

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to Traffic Wales for further advice on road conditions.

Issued at: 1335 Thu 15 Jul

Certainly looks like you guys are in for a real soaking

  4. Met O have issued a flash warning for N Ireland:

Heavy thundery showers this afternoon are expected to give accumulations of 15mm within a 3 hour period, with isolated accumulations through the afternoon and evening possibly as high as 50mm.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to TrafficWatchNI.com (operational hours 07.00 to 21.00 Mon to Fri and 09:00 to17:00 on Saturdays) for further advice on road conditions.

    Another warning for tonight:

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of Northern Ireland. There is a potential for slow-moving areas of heavy rain from Thursday continuing through the night into Friday morning, giving further totals of 20 to 30mm, and locally up to 50mm.

  5. Continuing chance of something for Ireland, latest from Met Eireann:

Today: Dry for a time this afternoon across the southeast, north and northwest. However rain will soon become widespread, turning heavy and persistent, with some spot flooding likely. Risk of thunder too. Very mild and humid, with highest temperatures 17 to 21 degrees. Winds will be mainly moderate variable, increasing fresh along eastern counties later.

Tonight: The heavy rain will persist into the early part of tonight, clearing northeastwards later, with the continued risk of spot flooding as well as thunder. Breezy, with lowest temperatures 9 to 12 degrees, and fresh and gusty northwest winds.

  6. Met Office forecast for here tonight was for rain with hill snow. Here on the coast weve had no rain, only heavy snow showers off and on. The temps have been slightly too high for much of it to settle so the roads are clear but there is a covering on pavements and grass. Bit strange that this was forecast as rain when all the showers during the day here have been of either hail or light snow, but maybe there was more to it that I dont know about!

Cant understand why Met O haven't issued a weather warning. We've had numerous heavy snow showers that are accumulating here in Antrim , I imagine conditions must be much worse over the higher ground.

  7. 1.5c and snowing. Getting a grip easily on the practical zero thaw from last night.

I got the brush out and cleared the drive first thing this morning to help stop the impacted ice in a few days time.

So a very clever man with a snow scoop walk up and down the street clearing two tyre tracks for the car this morning.

My car did pretty well in the snow today Rear wheel drive and wide tyres!) and only did the sliding about thing when I tried to get back into the driveway this evening!

Agree with earlier posts, this really has been a very special winter seasons so far!

    Chucking down right now!

Nothing here in Antrim apart from crystal clear skies.

Beats the mild/drizzly muck of recent winters

Zero thaw today yet again, becoming an exceptional cold spell despite the lack of deep snow in this neck of the woods.

  8. Received another 2cm overnight, giving 5cm in places. Very very icy. That is our lot for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, outlook is for extreme cold but bone dry conditions apart from coastal locations.

    Dammit!

Off topic but southern counties in england look like taking a real hammering today...30-40 cms according to Metalert :wallbash:

    Summary

    Staying very cold

December was a particularly cold month with temperatures below average in most areas. It now looks as though much of January will continue in the same vein with harsh frosts and further heavy snowfalls.

  10. well if any of you have noticed I am in coleraine and am 100 m up the nearest station is ballykelly which is 15 miles away and am higher up. Earlier out in the car temp was -2 c at 2p

Joe no insult intended mate, just that your readings seem slightly on the low side. Dont let this put you off posting your reports which i thoroughly enjoy. What a cold spell we are experiencing! I know that your part of the world (and even more so in Ballymena about 20 miles to your south), can experience fantastic snowfalls when the rest of NI has nothing :(

  11. I think I know what culd be wrong with Joes Thermo Sensor? It must be frozen solid...I noticed mine did the same, when it was snow covered it lowered the output to a degree below what my actual temp was.

Currently 1.5c here, a drop of around 1c in the last 2 hours.

Hopefully we will see some showers in the next few days, I got very excited in the Bangor shower last night....HUGE flakes in it and I thought a streamer had started....whistling.gif

Chance of showers tomorrow but dry on Sunday. Monday brings the promise of something more substantial.
