  1. Incidentally, just the chance of one last (small) hurrah tonight, according to the latest MetO text forecasts:

W Mids: "...cloud will spread southeastwards across the region overnight, perhaps giving the odd outbreak of rain, sleet or snow."

E Mids: "...cloud and occasional light snow, freezing rain or drizzle probably spreading from the north later."

    Possible Cheshire Gap event??

  2. Pass out in surprise. Funnily enough gfs 12 oz at t384 has a very similar chart.

In the reliable time frame nothing much too look forward unless you're like photographing frost.

But frost is something we have been seriously lacking, so a minor celebration at least? With daytime maxima around 3/4 celcius in the midlands over the weekend according to model output, I am quite happy with the current situation when you take into consideration the winter so far.

  3. Ah thats what makes the weather so interesting.

Anyway I'm keeping a close eye on the exact track of the low, it will make a difference for some people in the Midlands, esp southern parts as to how much snow they can expect. We want the low a little north of the GFS and the frontal system to be more progressive then it has been and more akin to what it was on yesterdays 12z runs.

Low looks maybe a little north of where the 12z GFS expected at this early stage.

Yeah I thought so. Got told different earlier, but does look a little further north. Maybe 20/30 miles?

  4. Im very close to the high street. Very steep that and in snow it will be very ugly. However Im sure its a prime gritting route. :)

They gritted it that day too. Very different conditions I know, but it made no difference then! Would you believe it took the best part of 45 minutes to drive from the train station to Brierley Hill? Sadistically, I wish every winter was like the last two. There might be loads of disruption and chaos, but it was nice to see the Black Country streets deserted for a change!

And snowy....never forget the snow... :p

  5. Hi, Yes I remember that, a very snowy evening after a very snowy day! :D

haha yes indeed! Driving up Quarry "Bonk" High street wasn't fun at all!

Anyways, been watching this system since it was the mother of all storms sometime last week. I think it's been said over and over again, but this will come down to what you see out of your window. The radar shows a lot of PPN, but as the weather is pretty much a classic definition of chaos theory, no model will ever tell you exactly what will happen. Maybe the cold will undercut and we'll all be buried, maybe we won't. Just enjoy it!

Eyes to the sky, and keep sharp objects locked away :drinks:

  6. Hey guys.

Been a while since I've posted, but was thinking of the good old days of January 2010. Anyone remember that low pressure system that moved up from the south in the middle of the day and missed us by a mere 50 or so miles?

Then out of nowhere PPN developed over the top of Brum and started rotating for hours. I think Blizzards will remember this... I didn't live too far away from him and we got badly hit.

    Good Times!
