Heavy rain and thunder here in Street. River Parrot has now burst its banks in Burrowbridge adding to flooding on the Somerset levels.
-
A361 Closed in both directions at Burrowbridge due to flooding from the Somerset levels. This is the main road between Street and Taunton.

When will winter arrive? Just a light dusting of snow and some crisp frosty days would be nice now.

When are MET office expecting to upgrade to amber warnings?

All depends on how your feed is fed. It's quite possible for a power cut to only affect you and next door is fine - depends on how many phases are knocked out. Keep an eye on http://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/internet/en/power-cuts/
We were all planning on after work drinks from lunch time on Christmas Eve... last year we cancelled it because of the snow, this year because of the wind?
Hope its not down to the sprouts!

For those of you expecting a flake or 2 next week:
Some incredible shots here:

Its still mind blowing how nature can produce something so beautiful as a snow flake.

No, not where the warnings are in place. Best listen to the experts as far more knowledge and data..
Thankyou.

I don't know what the temperature has been today but I've been stuck up a very high ladder pruning Wisteria, with the wind blowing and at times tipping down with sleety rain, it felt blinking cold!
If it's not going to snow, or at least be dry and frosty, then I'd like to fast forward to mid April please, bored with being cold and wet. Roll on Summer.
I bet we will still be cold and wet come April, and May,and June,and..............

After about an hour of light rain mixed with sleet the snow has now finally started to fall in Street,Somerset.
-
Still snowing here in street and looks like plenty of showers on the way for the west country.
-
What sort of time line if any are we expecting the snow to hit. i am working all weekend at Bristol airport and getting to and from work is first going to be a nightmare and then second it just causes chaos and disruption to flights in and out of my babber international.

I'm hoping Friday's event pans out like the one I remember in the early 80's
I was in the car with my dad going to visit my Aunt and uncle in Weston (we were living in Worle) On the way in it started to sleet, we thought nothing of it and carried on. When we got there it was still sleeting, it was only about 30mins later that my mum phoned and suggested we should come home because it was snowing heavily.
Woke up the following morning to around 30cm's of snow.
There must have been a mild element to the weather at the time for it to start of sleeting, maybe it was a slider low like the one forecasted for Friday.
I bet the charts looked dicey if we were able to look at them back then like we do now.
Could this have been the winter of 1981, i remember moving from up north to Stogursey,Somerset in October and in early December the village was cut off for about a week.

Working here at Bristol airport this evening. Started with sleet showers at about 15.30 then heavy wet snow from 17.00. Eased off now,too wet to settle but atleast I've seen my first snow of the winter.
-
Here in sunny Street I don't think we will see much in the way of snow next week. I would rather we had cold crisp dry frosty days just to let all the fields dry out for our local farmers.
-
Squall just started here in Street, rain battering on the windows.
-
Don't worry about the weather and just enjoy every second of the big day because it will fly by! good luck for the future.
-
Good question. Again could be marginal, but Ian said even colder on the weekend with the chance of more heavy snow. Interesting models coming up the nest few days.
The Atlantic is going to try and attack...and if our cold pool is strong enough this can bring lots of snow for the S.
Thanks for the reply, this could be a day to keep a close eye on.

Is sunday looking as bad as the weather we have had today?
-
Heavy snow now falling again here in Street and -1C. Had maybe 3 inches so far and it looks like sunday will be another day to watch.
-
Flake...Chocolate one or of the snow type...
Both!
-
Still think the dusting will be 5cm+
5cm+ still enough to cause major problems around here, one flake and all the schools close!
-
Still think this part of Somerset(Street) will see a light dusting but not to the amounts the BBC and others have forcast earlier today,in other words nothing to worry about.
-
-2C here in Street and a slight NE wind now blowing. Early snow we had around 1pm has now turned to ice on many roads and pathways are deadly! Still not confident about the amount of snow forcast for this area tonight as the low has moved further east.
