Carol Kirkwood called the feature, coming into Norfolk, a polar low, at 6:15. Wouldn't there be a major blizzard if so?

Apparently Benson in Oxfordshire was -14C at 21:00.

Just a quick welcome to all the new members who have joined or posted for the first time today!
Snow is quite heavy here now, not sure if the band will feed across us or just drop below us in the next couple of hours.
I'm one and thanks! It's great to see the first proper spell of winter here since 1991 - I missed the February stuff last year, but I was told the snow wasn't great where I live.
-
Yep. Fair do's. Humble pie being eaten here atm.
No worries It's great to find a forum with weather enthusiasts! Have been a weather geek since a young kid in the 1970's - sparked by a big storm on 2-3rd Jan 76.

Kold and Shrimper ridiculed the Met Office forecast earlier. What do they say now?
-
Just back from six lunchtime pints in Brightlingsea - delayed bus back though!
Can definitely say that Brightlingsea has had at least two inches of snow less than where I live, even though it's only a couple of miles, as the crow flies.

Glad to see the Met Office has upgraded the weather warning to be more realistic.. They do seem to be reactive though.
Thurrock and Southend expecting 4-8 cms?

Anyone else think that there won't be much melt in this sort of area? Because there won't be much time for temps to rise.
Precisely. If you've had lots of snow, you'll not lose much, if any. If the sky clears the temperature will drop too.

Now snowing as heavily as at any other time this morning.
-
Just measured 6cm of snow here, near Colchester, which was easy as I have a flat area outside and there's sod all wind.
Seems to be intensifying again too.

Now East Anglia is 'orange' on Met Office warnings. Must be reading some of the corrrespondents comments here..
About 6 or 7 cms here now. Still snowing.
-
The Met Office have now made Essex 'Orange'
I suspect the 2-5 cms mentioned might be an understatement, as we already have this here. Having said that, the snow is now lighter.
Alresford, near Colchester, Essex

Several cms of snow in Alresford, Essex - between Colchester and Clacton.
Started snowing at about 7 this morning.
I see the Met Office are off the mark with warnings in our area.
Together with missing the protracted cold spell in February 1986, when referring to the duration of this one and instead going back to 1981, they're not covering themselves in glory.

Only flurries here - 5 miles away.
