  1. Been a thaw here, snow depths have gone down a fair bit since the morning and sleet has been falling most of the day. Hoping we can get snow back as we head into the evening, after what has quite frankly been a non-event over last night.
  2. Can someone give me the definition of inland? it's snowing here but I'm worried it'll turn back to sleet as the band moves in.
  3. We need a huge upgrade then to something a bit more like 23hrs snow.
  4. How dare you leave Washington out, although I hope that entire ECM forecast is wrong.
  5. Really fine snow but heavy, mistook for rain in the lamppost and nearly went berserk.
  6. Had a bit of rain here, but a lot of snow remains in tact. Am 244ft asl apparently. Thought I'd be lower to be honest. Hopefully it's high enough and further enough away from the coast for the snow to be, for want of a better word, snow.
  7. This problem is more than 50 years old, watched the black and white documentary of the 1963 big freeze on BBC2 today, too young to remember by a long way but looked awesome. It was heavily South/South West centered. Snowing here now. quite heavy big flakes. Road that was gritted earlier totally recovered.
  8. Moderate Snow turned to HAIL! DAMMIT. It better get back to snow soon.
  9. Just done a slighty more scientific measurements - the snow is the depth of my finger on top of my bin which using http://iruler.net/ is 10cm, a fair chunk less on the path and road though. So yeah, moan away Nick.
  10. Swings and roundabouts. I'm sure you'll get a few foot by next Friday. I'm currently searching the house for a tape measure/ruler to get a more accurate measurement but can't find one. So I'm not sure what my depth is but it's not much more than 5cm I'd guess,
  11. Snow's getting a bit heavier, not much, but if I've read the radar on raintoday right that band of snow giving York a pasting now is heading up this way now. Bring it on.
  12. You guys better send that inland and a bit to the south. Then hopefully it'll collide with the band hovering around York. Certain 10cm minimum.
  13. Fairly light snow steadily throughout the day here, with the odd heavy burst. Was a good one at around 3.30 which covered the entire garden, all the bits that were melted were recovered, so hopefully it's laid a good foundation for the heavier snow showers tonight to give a good inch or so at least on top of what's already on the grass/garden wall. Very light snow now. Bit worried whether I'm far enough north though. Northumberland and the south seem to be getting all the good stuff today.
  14. So the general Sunderland area is out of the question for snowpocalypse being hammered to death on the news?
  15. Long time lurker here. Tonight's band of snow/rain/sleet according to the BBC is meant to last from now until midnight with persistent heavy snow according to the BBC. A quick glance out the window suggests that isn't on the radar at all. Will the band bring any snow to the Washington area, or just a bit of sleet?
  16. Pretty disappointing event today. Steady snow earlier on but very little lying. Not even enough for a covering just patches on the grass and path. Although freezing rain and ice pellets were a nice sight, but would really love to see a couple of cm of lying snow this evening into tomorrow morning. Currently steady sleety rain, so there is hope yet.
  17. The newspapers should be banned from long range weather forecasting unless this situation does turn out and we get a snowy september, that'll put them off sputing this kind of crap in future. It may be a bit wet in September, apart from that thecairngorms will see slight snowfall.
  18. Has anybody walked out in the rain today and thought that if it was about fifteen degrees colder it would be snow. Also what is the difference between a low pressure system that brings snow ad one that doesn't. Is it in the type of air?
  19. It could muck up the winter synoptics, regarding russia's cold winter climate, winter will either not happen or be an absolute blizzard. Although being no expert I'd like it if somebody else could give more detail about a hot russian summers effects on the UK Winter.
