  1. Thanks for the comments on the pictures fOlks - not quite sure how to use the multiquote but I will get there Tuning in fairly regularly now - things starting to get exciting again keep up the good work all.
  2. Exactly zero degrees here in the Rhymney Valley but it was -1.5 as I came over Caerphilly Mountain earlier this evening - it sure is getting cold again. How much confidence have you guys for the extended Feb forecast? hearing comparable to 1947 / 63 is pretty sensationalist stuff. I'm not doubting the knowledge or the sincerity of the posters but I'd just appreciate your thoughts on this . Also like to say I really enjoy this forum now and so glad I found it Posted a few snow shots from the Dec event where I live - hope no one minds I will delete them if its not appropriate cheers
  3. What part of Wales are you talking about Andy - Will S Wales be affected again or is this more a Westerly feature?
  4. This is an interseting tool I found on the web - might be worth bookmarking for those of us who are useless with Maps http://www.earthtools.org/ Not sure if anyone uses it but seems to suggest the centre of Blackwood High Street is @ 197m / 646ft Depends where in Blackwood your living of course but seems a reasonable response - my height in Penpedairheol is 199m / 652 feet which again is close to what I expected.
  5. Looks like the Fishmeister is also undecided on the battle to come - trying not to get too positive but hope is rizing all the time "Further ahead, the cold from the east is still desperate to push back toward the UK but at the same time Atlantic systems want to push in from the west and which way the battle will go as we move into next week is uncertain at this stage..." Well Gelligaer not too far away from you is just over 700 foot so I would guess you being a little lower down would be somwhere between 550 to 650 foot?
  6. Time for bed I think - even though don't think theres a hope in hell of being in work tomorrow - gotta get my beauty sleep - catch everyone tomorrow- its been a lot of fun today
  7. Unbelievable - 1.30 in the morning and it hasn't stopped snowing since 16:30 on Tuesday - I didn't think we had winters like this anymore - gonna get out first thing and take plenty of snaps - not sure if we'll see this kind of snow storm for a long time to come
  8. Hi JK - No not Clarke but only living a few miles from yourself in Penpedairheol. Got many phones on the way home about going to Cardiff tonight - don't think people appreciate how bad it is on the roads out there if you haven't been out in it. I'd say theres zero chance of getting to work tommorrow unless this turns to rain but it don't look likely here - still coming down horizontally - right out for a pint in the garage accross the road to discuss the snow with the other grumpy old men. Take care Steve
  9. Had to cancel my trip to Cardiff tonight to the theatre - half past 4 left Newport - 7 o'clock got back to the Rhymney Valley and Andy you were right - lucky just to get home - my mate left work same time as me but at 8'oclock still not back to Caerphilly - what a nightmare journey. Blowing a blizzard out here 2 to 3 foot drifts and no end in site - if this keeps going all night as it is now could be looking at some pretty amazing scenes in the morning. Daughter phoned from Cardiff but said hardly anything where she was - light snow - nearly drizzle.
  10. Nothing happening in Newport as we speak - but 16:30 I'm off home to the Rhymney Valley then down to Cardiff for the night - want it to snow- but not heavy until I can get back into the Valleys before midnight - perhaps not the smartest thing I'll ever do but fingers crossed
  11. Well just checked outside and the car temp is showing 2 degrees above zero. I'm in the Rhymney Valley North of Caerphilly by about 7 miles. Not really thawing outside but very overcast and a little foggy. Was in Cardiff yesterday and saw Roath Park lake completely frozen over and even rarer - the first gritter into my cul de sac for 25 years. Still got 4 inches of snow in the back garden - not sure what to expect tommorrow (got tickets to the theatre at 19:30 in Cardiff on Tuesday - do I risk it?)
  12. Nothing doing in the Rhymney Valley but I'm just off to Cardiff - lets see whats happening on Caerphilly Mountain later this evening Andy - not sure where your seeing blizzards and 2 to 3 foot drifts in Ponty later this week - things look like their just starting to return to normal for a while from what I can make of things
