  1. Hi. I’m lucky enough to be booked on a flight to (hopefully ) view the aurora on Wednesday night. Where can I find the latest observations to get an idea if/where the aurora will be visible on 23rd March?
  2. I was living in Hastingleigh until 2019. Bet is a foot deep there by now! I clearly remember driving from Hastingleigh with thick snow falling to Wye where it was falling as heavy rain and then back to the snow in Hastingleigh - amazing the difference a little elevation brings!
  3. Ha ha Good detective work @tight isobar but nope. it is my mums table and chair (she lives alone next door to me (and my husband!))
  4. Sleet to snow around 2 am ish here. Been waking up through the night and seeing moderate snow falling the whole time. Just looked out the window at the ground expecting to see a good few cm and barely anything has settled. Dew point has just reached 0.0C now so hopefully it will now start settling.
  5. I grew up in Harefield Moved to Kent 20 years ago as I convinced myself (as a child) that it always snowed in Kent still go back to Harefield regularly (pre covid) as friends and family still there
  6. As someone with no training in understanding the weather or models, can any experienced posters help me out here... ... I *think* I’ve noticed in the past that models often correct the position of low pressure south very late in the day (T24/48 hrs) when low bumps into cold air. My question is, is this real? As I live in the south east I’m wondering if that is simply sub conscious hopecasting rather than model flaws and physics!
  7. Model output is so good today. Not sure I can bear to check them tomorrow as surely whatever they show will feel like a downgrade relative to watching tonights show even if they continue with the same For the first time ever I'm torn between the excitement of possible 'proper' winter snow (my favourite was Dec 2010 with over a foot of snow) and the fear a widespread snow event will significantly disrupt the vaccination efforts.
  8. Ah, nice to see some snow but turning to sleet now. Fingers crossed we get a decent lasting snowfall soon.
  9. Snowing in Canterbury! tiny tiny flakes, but it’s a start! actually is more like snizzle than snow but still better than the endless rain we’ve had recently
  10. Short but heavy rain shower just now near Canterbury. Temp 1.1C and dew point 0.4C. now just light rain
  11. Just started to snow in Bridge, Canterbury 0.5c and dew point 0.2c
  12. 9th Feb vs 16th Feb (so far). Check out the ‘highs’ on the right of each image. Already seeing stronger sustained and gust wind speeds.
  13. I’m near Canterbury in Kent. Just had a gust of 70 mph!!! No wonder I can’t sleep
  14. Highest wind gust measured on my weather station today was 52.6 mph. last weekend the highest was 62.4 mph. wunderground ID ICANTE6
  15. My hubby manages a group of heating engineers and loads of calls about broken boilers are due to the frozen pipes. Advice above is spot on. But also remember some boilers will need you to push the rest button after too.
  16. A bit late to the party on this conversation but I can confirm anyone with a station can upload to this site. I know because I connected my station last week! But most amateurs who have added their sites (just like Wunderground I suppose) tend to state what equipment they have and where it is located so you can make a judgement. I guess from a Met Office perspective they get access to ‘big data’ akin to crowd sourcing and can make use of that. keep up the good work on this thread guys. I’m just starting an Open University course on the weather so I hope to be able to contribute soon!
  17. Never seen a yellow warning saying rural locations could be cut off and cars stranded! That’s gonna be upgraded to a red warning surely?
  18. Hi Streetkid i bought aercus WS3083 professional weather station with UV and light meter. Apparently Vantage Pro 2 is highly regarded but I couldn’t stretch to that!

  20. I'm so excited about this cold spell i bought a weather station and linked it to the Met Office WOW site!!!! Dew point already dropped to -2.9... guessing it will be spending a lot of time in negative figures over the next couple of weeks! http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/observations/details?site_id=ef30a420-c514-e811-90ce-0003ff59a722
