  1. Didn't quite manage an ice day today, which was mildly irritating (max +0.5 °C) but nevertheless a very nice day to be out walking given the sunshine and lack of wind. Temperature now down to -3.4 °C. It has -4.6 °C to beat from last night to become the lowest of the winter so far, but I suspect we won't quite get there as mist and then cloud may well stop things getting much colder later in the night despite the continuing partial snow cover.
  2. I went out for a walk a few minutes ago and I was just thinking that, though I didn't quite put the snow to one side. Sunshine on snow is probably my absolute favourite weather-related scene, and with the crisp cold air (still only just above freezing) it was actually very refreshing. It gave me a real tonic to think that, yes it's a little thing, but here at the very end of 2020 is something that's gone right this year.
  3. Quick pic of the fields near me; as you can see, still pretty white even in the sun. That snowman is quite impressive, about two metres tall, but there was a guy and his kids near it so I couldn't get too close.
  4. No new snow here in N Worcs, but the fields near me look very similar to those, and snowmen are holding up well. Glorious sunshine here but still -2 °C; a fantastic morning for a walk as long as you watch your step, as there's a lot of ice around! Unsurprisingly given the snow cover, last night was the coldest of the winter so far here at -4.6 °C.
  5. Snowing again here, albeit lightly. Goes rather sleety when it's light but certainly snow when it's heavier. Very very icy underfoot - my neighbour has just set off in his car at about 15 mph, and he's normally quite a fast driver!
  6. It's been a good day here. Thanks to all the 2020 stuff(TM) I haven't been following weather as closely as I would most winters, so today had the tinge of an old-fashioned surprise snowfall about it, the kind of thing I remember as a kid in the 1980s. Maxed out at 1.6 °C in the end and it's now starting to fall away again. All melted now under trees etc, but still a good few cm lying on exposed pavements and lawns, car roofs etc. If it clears tonight then tomorrow morning will be a real ice hazard around here. Very pleased with what I've had here today, so more than happy for the next one to give folks in the East Midlands something to cheer!
  7. Got about 7-8 cm here, which is very good going for Bewdley! Easily the best since that amazing event in December 2017. And even though it's now melting with lots of drips everywhere, this is already a better winter than last year! Hey, something 2020 has got right!
  8. A truly grotty Thursday IMBY. Cold rain for hours and hours at just sufficient intensity to soak me through when I had to go out for half an hour in late morning. Nothing like cold enough for snow here, not even a sleet-flake, so it was simply dismal and dire. Crept up to 6 °C briefly when it dried up (a bit) in early afternoon, but still a miserable day all round.
  9. I'll be one of those picking an English spot and going for -12.5 °C at Pershore. I'm not expecting anything stupendously cold, but low negative double figures at that location is hardly beyond the realms of possibility. I've just checked Trevor Harley's site, and in December 2010 Pershore fell beneath -15 °C at least twice, with -18.7 °C on the 20th, following a maximum of -8.2 °C the day before! It wasn't actually the lowest in England that winter, as Shawbury hit -19.6 °C on the 19th, but as a Worcestershire man I have to stick up for Pershore in this thread! In my own part of Worcestershire, getting below -10 °C is very rare -- December 2010 managed it of course, but from memory only one or two winters since have done so. So I'll guess at -7.4 °C IMBY as the lowest I'll record myself this winter.
  10. I don't ask for much from this month. Just a repeat of the 28 cm depth we had here in December 2017 would do me fine. One of the incredibly rare times when a streamer hit Bewdley head on and stayed there!
  11. Pleasant enough today after the morning rain and gloom finally cleared. Almost cloudless now, in fact. 9 °C so pretty average, but it feels okay out there when walking.
  12. Better today, once it had finally stopped raining. Chilly and bright, much preferable weather for late autumn, to me anyway. I am really concerned we don't have another really wet late autumn and winter, though. The flooding around here last time was bad enough without the covid restrictions, but now when people can't even escape their flooded houses by meeting friends in the pub it'd be even more miserable.
  13. Not too bad a day really, considering. Plenty of showers, one or two of them quite heavy, but some periods of sunshine in between. Give me that any day over interminable grey gloom. Nothing special about the temperature (max 12.8 °C) but the air felt quite nice and fresh while I was out walking in the morning and again in the afternoon. Clearish skies for a bit this evening, too, allowing me to see the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in the same night sky.
  14. Made it up to a spectacular 11.5 °C today. Miserable, miserable day it was, too. The best I can say for it is that there were a few short breaks when it wasn't raining all that much. Most of the time, though, it was wet and very dark. The lights were on virtually all day. Tomorrow's forecast seems to have improved from when I last looked, and I might even get to see the sun in the afternoon!
  15. A beautiful autumn day here. Not especially warm (max 16.2 °C) but lots and lots of sunshine combined with light winds has made it feel very pleasant indeed. I had a longish walk in the morning (about 100 minutes) and it was gorgeous. Glad I got that in before what's coming down the track, though!
  16. What a change now. Max today was 12.5 °C. Still felt reasonably nice when the sun was out, as long as you kept moving, but really very chilly in the rain and wind.
  17. Pretty grotty here as expected. Steady light rain, 11.7 °C. At least the winds are light, so it doesn't feel too cold. It's not that gloomy either, considering. If we're lucky and get the odd glimmer of sun in the afternoon it might not feel too bad. Certainly nothing like the warmth we've had, though.
  18. As with others, just squeaked out one more really nice day. 21.2 °C (so just made 70 °F) and lots of sunshine until about 3pm. Then quite an abrupt change. By 4pm it was overcast, windy and feeling chilly and autumnal. Tomorrow will be considerably colder again even before taking the rain into account. Given everything else, I could really do with a sunny autumn. Don't really mind whether it's mild or cold, but please not another autumn of flooding rains.
  19. Lovely afternoon here as well. Unbroken sunshine and 21.6 °C. A shame it's all change very soon.
  20. Still only 15.3 °C, but almost unbroken sunshine so now it does feel a lot warmer, as long as I'm out of the wind. Warm enough to enjoy an ice cream anyway!
  21. It's 12.9 °C at midday, the sun's gone in and there's quite a breeze. Feels a lot cooler than yesterday. The warm sunshine and 20 °C predicted by the MetO for here today feels a long way off right now!
  22. Max of 25.4 °C today, which is higher than yesterday and pretty darn good for 15th September! Clouded over completely now so that's as high as we'll get, though it's still warm. The outlook is not very inspiring, at least in the vaguely reliable timeframe, so I have to think that this is the last day I'll be seeing 25 °C for a long, long time.
  23. A truly wonderful September day. Some mist in the morning, so chilly for a while even once that had lifted, but a lovely afternoon with almost no clouds. 24.4 °C tops. Very, very nice weather!
  24. Another very nice day today. 19 °C tops, but lots of sunshine, especially from lunchtime onwards. The air felt fresh but the sun still has decent warmth to it. Looking forward to the week ahead!
  25. A beautiful day today in N Worcs. Considerably cooler than yesterday (max 19.2 °C) but less humidity and more sun, so it felt glorious out for a walk in the country at lunchtime.
