  1. Yes, probably. August 2003 was a bit like that here, with only 1-2 really hot (>30 °C) days. Although a 40 °C max would obviously and rightly get lots of coverage, the one I think I'd find most notable would be the first 20 °C CET month. July 2006 came very close (19.7 °C) so it's surely possible now with the right setup.
  2. It's reached 32.5 °C = 90.5 °F here. Seriously hot for this part of the world. Cloud spilling in from the west now though. Still high for the moment, but radar shows plenty of echoes around the Welsh border and if that comes much further east...
  3. You have to think we'll see 40 °C somewhere this decade.
  4. A good summer's day in the end here, though the cloud took its sweet time breaking up. From about early afternoon it's been lovely, though. Topped out at 26.0 °C but feels very comfortable with the breeze. Currently almost unbroken sunshine. Tomorrow looks a bit too hot and humid for my liking, even if we do get away without any rain. Then summer ends again.
  5. Tomorrow IMBY looks very nice, Friday too hot and possibly cloudy later, Saturday quite nice again, Sunday back to cool and showery. I'm another who'd be happier with a week of 22-25 °C than this up-and-down. Still, at least it's interesting for a change!
  6. It was often okay for a bit here after the great weather ended. Not amazing by a long chalk, but I don't remember the really gloomy, cool, windy weather setting in properly until after that hot snap you mentioned. I don't recall August 2007 being that good here. Lots of days when the sunshine figures looked decent, but that disguised the fact that it was cool and showery during the day with a sunny late afternoon/early evening arriving when it was too late to have a full day out.
  7. This year has had an amazing summer. It just happened in the spring! The sunshine figures for this spring, at least here in the Midlands, would have put it in the very top rank of summers. Since mid-June I'll agree it has been underwhelming and/or disappointing most of the time. Not in the bottom tier where the likes of 2007 languish, but perhaps in the one above that. It could get bumped up another notch if August is actually decent, though I understand why people are sceptical given August's general record in most recent years.
  8. Sums it up really. I'm not totally unrealistic, I know SE England is always more likely to get the drier, warmer, sunnier conditions in summer. But this is getting ridiculous now. If you don't live in the SE, this is a very, very poor July. Looking at the forecast for the next few days, I reckon it's now almost certainly going to be the third worst July IMBY of the 21st century so far.
  9. Another frustrating day here in Worcs. The morning was actually really nice, with a decent amount of sunshine and the hint of some proper warmth building. Since early afternoon it's turned around and it's now raining with 100% cloud cover and a nagging breeze. Not even remotely close to this morning's pleasant-looking MetO regional forecast. In terms of everyday experience, rather than record-keeping, I don't really care about what the daily means might be. It's what the weather's like in the daytime that's far more important. And on that score, this has been a very poor month, undoubtedly the worst July here since the 2012 disaster.
  10. A fairly pleasant day here. On the cool side (just scraped over 20 °C) but a fair amount of sunshine, no rain once the overnight stuff had cleared in the early hours, and the wind only mildly nagging. Hardly a classic summer's day, and definitely not a match for the first half of Friday, but by recent standards this was a good 'un.
  11. A vaguely decent day today (Thursday) although not exactly memorable. Decently warm for once (22.4 °C with light winds) and even a bit of sunshine here and there. Turned cloudy and gloomy in the afternoon, but the cloud cleared reasonably well by evening. A nice Friday coming up as mentioned above, then dross on Saturday. Currently looks acceptable but unthrilling thereafter.
  12. It's increasingly looking like we really did have our summer three months early this year. Here in Worcs this would have to get far worse to beat 2007 and 2012 for miserableness. But it's on course to be the worst summer since 2012. The problem is how tedious it's getting. Time and again, a forecast 3-4 day spell of warm, bright weather is downgraded at the last minute to chilly gloom with drizzle. 9-10 hours of rain/drizzle today when nothing like that was forecast even last night. As East Lancs Rain says, a mixture of really nice days and heavy downpours would definitely be preferable to this near-constant murk and rubbish.
  13. What a contrast. Far, far more rain than forecast, and it seemed to be coming down every time I poked my head out of the door. Got one hurried walk in during the morning and that was it. Rain, rain, rain. Not especially cold (19.7 °C) but yet another poor day for the time of year. Next couple of days also look uninspiring, though maybe some minor warmth as we head towards the weekend. Will believe it when I see it as ever!
  14. Sunday was the first truly summery day here for quite some while. 22.4 °C, lots of sunshine, gentle breeze. Clouded over in the evening, but still good enough to sit in the garden with a book for an hour. Right, that was summer, was it?
  15. I think we got a bit lucky in Worcs, reading the last two posts. A decent amount of sunshine (though it did cloud over fully for a bit in the early afternoon) and 19.6 °C feeling okay. Still not a great July day, but a very acceptable walking day. I was wearing a fairly thin T-shirt and never felt at all cold.
  16. Assessing today depends on whether you think in absolute or relative terms. In absolute terms, a max of 17.7 °C and a fairly brisk NW'ly do not make a great July day. The outlook, with temps hovering around 20 °C and no sign of a really nice warm, sunny spell is also uninspiring in overall terms. In relative terms, it's been an enormous improvement on yesterday. Plenty of sunshine, no rain and even the wind has now finally dropped. I'd have bitten your hand off for this a day ago! It's been good walking weather, too, especially as the wind and sun together have dried up any mud and puddles very nicely.
  17. I guess it was pretty patchy. Here in north Worcestershire, which is often a bit of a snow desert, 2010 was easily the snowiest year since the 1990s. No, we didn't get a foot of snow at either end of the year, but then we never do. We didn't even in 1991. Actually the closest I've come here was 28 cm (from two events) in December 2017!
  18. I know the feeling, same here in Worcs. Currently 13 °C and barring one or two brief intervals it's been barely any warmer all day with drizzle/light rain the whole way. I honestly don't care, at all, whether the mean temperature is above average or not. Chilly damp days and very mild nights (which can average out to slightly above average) do not a summer make in my book. The next few days look a bit better, thankfully, especially the weekend. 19 °C and occasional sunny spells is not something you'd expect to get excited about in July -- but right now I'm thrilled at the prospect!
  19. Well, this is the Midlands. We're not allowed too much good weather. It's the law or something. But seriously, I'm not even going to worry about next week just yet. A vaguely decent Friday/weekend would be a vast improvement over today and tomorrow!
  20. Utterly miserable day here. No sign of the bright morning weather that was forecast. Just murk and drizzle all day. Max 15.5 °C and we were lucky to get that. Lights have been on for hours. I'd be unimpressed with this in early November. The next two days look pretty dire as well. Fingers cross that this time the better weather modelled for 3-5 days out actually comes to pass.
  21. MetO West Midlands forecast for today, timestamped 4 am: "A dry and bright start across the region with sunny spells, although the odd isolated shower is possible. Showery rain will move in from the west in the afternoon..." Actual weather here in Worcs: near-constant rain from around 8:30 am. Maybe there was a dry and bright spell at sunrise, but it sure as heck isn't anything like the forecast now... sigh.
  22. Today was rescued by a very decent evening with plenty of sunshine and finally lighter winds. Temps still disappointing for July (max 18.8 °C) but at least I could enjoy my walk around the local area after tea. Earlier in the day it was very cloudy, as seems to be our lot in "summer" now. I suppose we used up our sunshine and warmth quota in the spring! If July were to continue like this, it would go into the "rather poor" category for me. By no means a disaster like 2007 or 2012, but still pretty underwhelming for what is supposed to be the warmest month of the year. Yes, there are suggestions in the latest models of something better in a week or so... but we've seen that before. It has to actually happen at T+0 to count!
  23. Well, what a lovely update from the MetO this afternoon for my region. The previous one had several days of dry weather. Now? Every single day for at least the next week has at least some rain. I just want a reliably dry 2-3 days. Is that too much to ask from summer anymore?
  24. As I've just said in my local Midlands thread, the thing that's annoying me most today is the wind, especially as it's not going anywhere for another couple of days yet. Without that, today would be a just about useable day -- certainly much better than the miserable yesterday in terms of rainfall. Still overcast and a bit gloomy, temps still below par (anything below 21 °C is poor for here in July) and maybe only a short break midweek before the next rain arrives, if some of the most recent models come off. Spring is the new summer, summer is the new autumn. So I guess autumn should be the new winter with lots of ice and snow!
