  1. Thick fog here now, temp 1.4c. Is this high level cloud forecast to break up more? Might head up a hill later to catch the sunset, should be a good one above the fog and snowline.
  2. Nice upgrade on the GFS there Liam, I'd definitely take that over a dry easterly! Like you say, probably change on the next run, certainly going to be nail-biting model watching over the next couple of days! Fingers crossed people!
  3. Beautiful morning here, deep snow on the hills above 400m and a hard frost in the valleys. Not sure on temps as my thermometer isnt very accurate in these conditions, too high up and too close to the house. Judging by the frost on the grass I'd say its probably the coldest night of the winter so far. Looking forward to this easterly, probably be as dry as a bone here but will be nice to have some settled weather for a change!
  4. Heavy wet snow shower just passed through, tried sticking to the grass but melting now. Temp 2c Nice to see some wintry weather back on the forecasts, this winters been dire since before christmas.
  5. I was only 10 at the time so the only thing I remember was a two week holiday on the Isle of Man. The cottage we rented was a poky little place for a family of six, but that didn't matter as we spent all day, every day on the beach, just a stones throw away. Swimming in warm water, building huge sandcastles, barbecuing while watching the sun set, best summer holiday in the U.K. ever!
  6. Finally a decent winters day, frost on the ground and a nip in the air. Fog seemed to linger over the river Eden all day and has now rolled up the Ullswater valley. Should be a beaut tomorrow, I shall be out with the camera. Shame theres no snow though.
  7. I was very lucky to have the sun out on Sunday for the last of the cold weather, have been out on the hill a few times this month but this was the first time I bothered to take the camera. Will be very different conditions this christmas, last year we went for a walk around Aira Force which was frozen solid and Boxing day walked out across Derwent water which was covered in 4/5 inches of ice, wont be able to do that this year!
  8. Headed up over Causey Pike, Sail and Grisdale Pike yesterday. Perfect conditions, huge drifts of powder snow, lovely blue sky. It's a shame most of this will melt with this coming mild spell. December has been great for snow on the Lakeland Fells, hopefully more of the same in the new year!
  9. One thing that really winds me up is when people on this forum try to make people feel guilty for getting excited about severe weather, it's a weather forum for gods sake! Or when people say 'be careful what you wish for', superstitious nonsenses! Wishing for something to happen or not makes absolutely no difference to the outcome. The weather will do what the weather will do and we should try and enjoy whatever it throws at us.
  10. Pretty wet outside, hills are streaked with white and lots of standing water. Still plenty of snow on the hills, should freeze up nicely tonight, giving a good base for future snow. There's also still patches in the back garden. Temperature dropping, now at 6.9c. Not that windy here yet...
  11. I used to live in south Manchester/Cheshire, Hale Barns is quite different to the council estates in Wythenshawe down the road. One of the richest parts of the country to one of the poorest! Anyway back on topic, had heavy snow showers on and off all day, although the lying snow has melted quite a bit, probably be all gone by the morning. Current temp 2.5c. All eyes to this big storm now, could be some flooding around, heavy, persistent rain coupled with snowmelt from the mountains/hills.The ground around here is already saturated with water. I have a feeling Ullswater will be over the road by morning! (Not unusual, happens once or twice a year). Stay safe everyone!
  12. Oh the banter in here when people are snow starved! Got to admit though, the weather at the moment certainly isn't boring. Only 7 days into winter and already the northern half of the country has seen plenty of snow and a potentially damaging storm rattling though tomorrow!
  13. Lovely sunny day here, although high level cloud starting to move in. Still have a 2 inch covering of snow from yesterday. Temp 1.5c. Any chance of more showers today? Or is that it now until Friday?
  14. Beautiful sunny day, mostly blue sky. Still have 2 inches of snow from yesterday, making a very wintry scene outside! Temp 1.5c
  15. Just been out to clear the driveway, a good two inches of snow now, looks like more on the way!
  16. Just looked at the latest models, much milder air coming in on Thursday. Heavy and persistent rain, coupled with snow melt from the mountains could cause some flooding around Cumbria. One to keep an eye on. Back to cold Friday though!
  17. Well I'm not too far from Alston, been snowing on and off here all morning, about an inch covering. I'm at 250m, Alstons around 400m? So should be a decent covering there, although I'm not sure how much further east these showers have been penetrating. They do seem to always have snow up there though!
  18. Heavy snowfall here on a stiff breeze. Was going to drive into town this morning, not to sure now!
