  1. Two almighty claps of thunder (to use technical term) in Crystal Palace, five minutes ago, now torrential rain and hail. That's quite a bit for the Met Office's less than 5% probability of precipitation, though technically of course they are covered .
  2. In Crystal Palace, the snow is settling readily now on grass, not yet on pavements or roads. Temperature 1.1, dew point -0.5.
  3. Light snow is just starting to fall in Crystal Palace, temperature of 2.5 and falling quickly.
  4. It looks as if the cold has won this particular skirmish over Crystal Palace - we did get up to the dizzy heights of -0.8 at about 7 pm but are now back down to -1.2 and the snow, albeit fairly light, is intensifying and settling again on the (gritted) road outside. The temperature has been continuously sub-zero for 72 hours, the first time this has happened since 2010/11 I would imagine, and quite remarkable for so late in the season.
  5. Snow here, starting to settle on cars - temperature fallen to 1.4.
  6. Rain starting to turn to sleet now - let's hope it's the start of a trend. :-)
  7. Currently 1.3C with a dp of -0.3C - snow now settling on most surfaces :-)
  8. I've signed in properly now! Yes, sleet - i.e. white when falling but not settling.
  9. Light snow, and most surfaces covered, temperature 0.7, dew point -0.6.
  10. Temperature 0.9, dewpoint -0.6 - just the right side of the margin for settling snow, so a thin white cover.
  11. I hope so - but three miles to southwest, sky is completely overcast and some light rain has just started!
  12. Is that cumulonimbus that I see forming over the Streatham-Clapham area? I've rarely seen a cloud develop so quickly as the warm air becomes unstable and moves upwards.
  13. Same here in Crystal Palace - a little snow on the cars and roofs. Not an April fool either!
  14. Today is a perfect illustration of how nonsensical it is too say "the ground is too wet for snow to settle". As many of us are seeing, as the temperature drops and the dew point falls below zero, snow will begin to settle on even the most sodden grass. Temperature now 1.1, dew point -0.1. Gradually turning white!
  15. Temperature has dropped 0.5 degrees in past hour, now 1.3 and dew point 0.0. Snow beginning to settle on car windscreens. If the temperature drops another half degree, it could be an interesting day.
  16. Steady snow, not yet settling. Temperature 1.3, dew point 0.0 - so just needs the temperature to drop another 0.5 and we should be at that magic point!
  17. It's just started to snow. Temperature 2.5, dew point 1.3. Both steadily dropping!
  18. Well, in the last half hour the cool down has begun. Temperature reached a peak of 4.3, dew point 3.1. Felt quite balmy! Now 4.2, dew point 2.9. Could become very interesting as the day progresses.
