  1. I think anyone who is writing off this winter is, quite frankly, being pathetic to be honest, it's only December! Having lived in this area all my life, most of the best snowfalls I can remember happened late in the season. You won't find me writing off winter till we get to march.
  2. Well what a difference a year makes, the image below shows what it was like outside my front door on this day last year!
  3. If that band stays as it you can expect alot more than just a few rogue flurries! or heavy rain, whichever falls from the sky that is lol
  4. Something else I just noticed, the western side of that precipitation band is moving slower than the eastern side & it's the western side that's heading in our direction.
  5. You want to look again, check the meto radar, click the 1300 & 1500 frames, clear southward movement, if the welsh mountains don't break it up then it'll hit our region alright!
  6. Interesting, reports of snow to sea level from that band, wonder what it would fall as for our patch.
  7. Trust me to end up driving over the mendips last night while the dry slot was passing over our patch, only thing I saw up there last night was pea soup, very thick fog which made driving nasty!
  8. Well i'm chuffed, least I got to see some snow falling here between 3 & 4 this morning
  9. Yep pretty much all snow here now too, just seen a gritter going up the road as well.
  10. It's getting more wintry here by the minute, can see some some fairly big flakes falling at times but still rain mixed in
  11. Lol we get snow here under the right setup, had snow on the ground.from the 17th to the 26th of December last year. Rain turning sleety now.
  12. Would be nice to see a flake or two falling but currently rain, which I was expecting anyway.
  13. Plain old rain here, not even a sign of sleet, might turn a bit wintry later in the night, beeb did have patches of white around here on their forecast for around 5-6am
  14. I see i'm not the only one still up, all I'll see is rain I expect but I'll hang around for a bit longer and see what that area of precipitation coming in from Wales decides to drop.
  15. Personally I don't care about any settling, to see snow falling would be nice, even if I have to go drive up the mendips late tonight to se it lol, which I did the other night and managed to get up there while a shower was passing which was snow up there.
  16. Back end of the precipitation is already visible on the nw & met radar, looks to me like it'll of passed by our patch by midnight or not long after! All the forecasts I've seen show rain/snow still falling around here by rush hour tomorrow! Either there's more precipitation coming in which is out of range of the radar or this system is rattling through alot quicker than predicted.
  17. Latest weather forecast I just saw at 4.30 on the bbc news 24 channel showed the snow line way further south now, my location is in on the action according to that, be interesting to see what ian shows on the local forecast later.
  18. Oh I'd bet money on that, question is for better or worse, hopefully better and that snow line moves sw to cover more of our region. This reminds me a bit of a similar scenario back in the late 90s I think it was, had colder air over us back then though and the foreast was for snow from the m4 southwards, last forecast I'd seen the night before still showed it on track yet the following morning the lp ended up hitting northern france instead and we were bone dry!
  19. Check the bottom right, that appears to be the 12z your posting and not the latest 18z
  20. yep that's what the 18z gfs is showing, according to what I've been reading in the model output thread, national bbc forecast at 9.30 showed snow way up to nothern england but I think the beeb are just covering all options, just in case.
  21. I'd say there's every chance things will change, for the better of worse is unknown but the met still don't know exactly where this lp will track.
  22. Here's hoping the track of that LP is further south and so pulls the snow threat further south with it, I doubt the track will be known even 12 hours out!
  23. Yep I was up there last night around 9 and it was snowing up there then, is certainly sleet here now and not just rain.
  24. chucking it down with rain here, at an extreme push I could say it looks ever so sleety at times but that's probably just my imagination lol
  25. http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2011/12/13/basis06/ukuk/prty/11121412_1306.gif Wasn't expecting that for tomorrow!
