  1. Can anyone explain why, when snow comes in, the Weymouth/Portland area gets very little. It seems to either evaporate over Lyme bay, when its atlantic frontal snow, or fails to reach us from the east when more convective. Yet when it rains, like right now, we get as much as anyone else?

I'm glad you brought that up, I notice something similar here in weston that when it's atlantic frontal snow, the ppn has a habit of breaking up as it passes and then reforming, I've seen this process happen time and time again in winters past while watching the ppn meto radar, yet take today for instance and we've had pretty much heavy rain since late afternoon.

  2. im sorry 4 weeks left till the end of winter :cc_confused: .

again as per my rant yesterday, why is everybody taking every single run as gosspel, dear god!!!!.

My thoughts exactly, at least I'm finding out who on here is a novice model watcher and who are the more experienced model watchers who aren't silly enough to take every model run as gospel, one thing I find funny is those people whose mood swings as much as the models do when dealing with cold outlook, like a few weeks ago lol.

Bring on the mild I say, be nice out there in any sunshine & today is an example, clear blue skies, oh and on the subject of mild, you wont find me writing off the rest of winter just because the models are showing mild for the next week or two, they might be right or we could find ourselves breaking out of the mild spell sooner.

  3. Lol couldn't agree more Andy, some on here seriously need to get a grip! I also see accusations of straw clutching, can't say I see any, I for one am not expecting any cold weather til towards the end of jan at the earliest, the models are still indicating a change to colder conditions around the 20th, will be interesting to see if the models keep with that theme over the next few days.

  4. Temperature is falling away quickly now here. 0.0c maybe there is still hope but shame it may be rain by morning :cc_confused:

Don't think it matters how cold it is, going by the latest met office radar there wont be much of anything falling, it's very patchy indeed with the more organised ppn way out west of cornwall and that lot isn't heading our way, or is this band of ppn meant to intensify as it moves north?

  5. Well I consider myself the biggest snow fan on this site blum.gif lol, but I'm now wishing for spring to arrive, I'd probably feel differently if it was cold enough for any falling snow to settle but it's just not cold enough at sea level, we had heavy snow for a time this morning which was nice to see but when the ground is too warm for it to settle it might as well fall as rain.

This winter has been the best I can remember in along time, to have snow lying for 7 days back in january & then to have fresh snow fall on top of what was already lying, well it had been many years since that last happened here in weston!

Roll on spring I say, daytime temps in the mid teens with plenty of sun & coolish nights.....heaven biggrin.gif
