Next 24 hours should see things firm up. BBC are being very sketchy with forecasting past tomorrow, you can tell that they are not sure what will happen. I heard a forecast a few hours ago that ended with 'next week will see things change quite dramatically'.
Thanks aj, I remember that well, even though I did not experience it for myself, seeing it on TV was incredible. I'm travelling to Surrey tomorrow evening and then back Monday night, so may see something on my travels!
That Monday chart is juicy, very warm, dry air being driving north from S Spain, with the cold front out west holding moisture. Everything is looking good at the moment!
Showers are getting more frequent in NW England, especially Merseyside, Manchester and Cheshire. But there's no structure or organisation to them, and almost more 'showery rain'.
I've had some sun here, although it might not be sunny where you are, the sun might be out up wind so showers can develop. we've had awful rain and cloud this morning, and it's almost dry outside again. A lot of convection happening today.
My personal experience f weather like this would mean most of the thunderyness in NW England will be more likely the further inland you are, I reckon east manchester may have a good shot today?
Had a lot of heavy rain here this morning, almost unrelenting, a brief 10 minute spell on sunshine, which was lovely and warm. The sun has a lot of power to it this time of year to aid these showers.
Fingers crossed for a thundery day.
Surprised how quiet the forum is today seen as this is probably the best chance of some home grown storms we've had (especially up north) in a good few weeks.
Metoffice's ppn predictions show the frontal rain fizzling from the north (Wales) from around noon, to allow heavy showers to break out in N Wales, midlands to the SE England.
I don't understand how there will be thunderstorms today in England, there's a line of moderate frontal rain slap bang over England and it feels fresher today?
Mettoffice seemed to have got the precipitation right today, so judging tomorrow, NW England from southern Lancashire through to Midlands then down to C/S England seem to be favoured at lunchtime tomorrow.
