  1. I bet if it was summer time the lows would be pelting right over us :D

I wonder what the 12z will bring...cool sunshine anyone :D

Haha, cool sunshine seems to be the norm for Scotland now. Speaking of sunshine, just a thought, could this February see close to record breaking amounts of sunshine for Scotland? I don't think the sun has went away for atleast 5 days now... besides night time of course.

  2. It's almost as if we are in a win win situation. I feel that if the lows are on a southerly track, one of them will eventually come far enough north to hit the majority of Scotland. Just one is all I ask for! Quite the contrast to summer though, at this point, I think most people would be pleading the lows to go south, now we want them in our back garden! :L

  3. I'd say that's unlikely but probably by Wednesday the lows will have pushed that bit further north. http://www.meteociel...48-21.GIF?20-06 http://www.meteociel...20-21.GIF?20-06

Yeah, i meant wednesday, but didn't word my post well. I am right in thinking, if they push too far north, milder conditions will spread over the majority of the UK sooner rather than later? So the path they are taking the now, by gradually moving further and further north will let the cold air persist for that little longer, which in turn increases snow chances further on the week?

  4. Predominantly yes but there is the possibility of the low on Wednesday making its way far enough north to give some frontal snowfall to southern Scotland as shown by the Met Office advisory for over 15cm from northern England to Fife. The slight difference perhaps being the track and position of the lows? http://www.wetterzen...slp19470313.gif .

I could see the potential for a lot more than 15cm! Just been out and its bitterly cold, grass frost surviving in the shade as well.

But back to the models... hopefully the 12Z's are good, if we still have a low tracking across Central/Southern Scotland and Northern England for wednesday maybe by Sunday or Monday, i'll be one happy bunny!

  5. If that area of snow is going to brush edinburgh, I take it I don't stand a chance here in dunfermline! Bummer! Can only hope I guess.

EDIT: Just had a look to the NE... Lots and lots and lots of cloud approaching. Totally contrasting picture to looking south towards edinburgh!

  6. I'm classing this winter as an historic winter because at a young age, it's the first time ive seen lying snow for that length of time. My only other notable winter was 06 i think. Woke up on sunday morning to have knee height snow, only to watch it melt away the next day.

Also, a picture of the UK on the bbc website showed the whole UK white. I thought that was pretty sweet!

  7. Walking to school this morning with temperatures hovering around -2 or so. Everything coated in frost for the 3rd consecutive morning. Frost lasting until around 12 noon. Around 3 degrees right now, with blue skies since I woke up.

God I hope summer turns out like this, not temperature wise, though... haha.

Edit: Oh, and welcome to the forum / Scottish thread.

    Thanks!

What do you think the chances of that little area of snow making it all the way to the Dunfermline area are? Right now, it's pretty much clear blue skies! Lovely outside!

  9. I disagree about that. Spring can be a crazy season, especially late March/early April where one week it could be pleasantly warm (temps into the high teens) and the following week could have an Arctic blast. Also you get strong convective potential bringing hefty showers.

    Still, nothing beats winter!

Completely blows my knowledge out of the water! Haha! I suppose I just love the winter cold and summer sun more than the other two seasons. But you got a point about the showers, although my knowledge only refers to them as april showers

  10. Extremely high, I'd say. Although I'm no weather expert (far from it!), the temps look favourable at the mo for Northern England and Scotland for some serious snowfall.

Perhaps, someone much more knowledgeable than myself can help with a forecast more. XD

Hmmm, sounds good for the northern half of the UK anyway. Just gotta hope the models keep the cold air over us. Never know, the cold air could creep southwards on the next output.
