Polar Maritime The models are definitely struggling but people need to read the Met Office updates for 10-19 Feb and 20 Feb-5 Mar because the written forecast does not agree with tonights model output. I would rather believe the written forecast than the models at the moment.

Decent storm here at the moments, a few flashes of lightening, plenty of thunder and rain/hail battering against the windows.
I can confirm Rossendale had the storm but not stopped raining.

1 hour ago, Alderc said:I predict a riot (as the Kaiser Chiefs once said) once the GFS 00z is fully viewed this morning. It’s an utter disaster, massive reduction in snow, pretty much nothing here (again) and reduced totals elsewhere then massive surge of milder conditions into the south west with +10c likely early on Thursday and the cold completely cleared, even through northern Scotland by early late Friday. All universally backed by the ensembles. In fact the Ops run has temps towards the mid teens by early the following week. BBQ anyone?
Have you even read the Met Office outlook!! Mild is not on their radar and I trust their outlook rather than 1 run of tne GFS. Very misleading post.

Any chart may or may not verify. I take all snow charts with a pinch of salt, but the point is that any member can post any model related chart, so let’s move on.
Hard to get snow and you want to put a pinch of salt on it. Sorry, couldn’t resist!!

Just thought I would leave this here. Very sad.

Interesting enough when you read the MO outlooks it does hint at the ECM with staying cold in northern and central areas with more snow and in the extended still goes for the easterly. Does not surprise me and us northerners may not miss out yet but does look to be better for people further south.

Some lovely cold rain to greet my journey to work this morning, hopefully a slight dry slot after 11am before the taps are turned on again later this afternoon. Not even the slightest hint of a wintry flake before the rain started...chance of hill snow lol. Should now be re-branded in our warming climate, as the 'very highest tops of the hills' snow (if your lucky)
Fingers crossed Sunday at least see a few wintry showers in the offering.... not expecting it to settle though.
Very strange. No warnings and we probably have more snow than we have had this winter.

In fairness we’ve had a bit of cover on the higher parts around the valley for much of this week and on a few occasions back in January but the amounts have been minimum and even a decent altitude like mine has seen little snow considering the potential which has been on offer.
One positive is that winter hangs on in these parts so you never know, if a few things fall into place you may see the ELR under snow.
BTW is the gala weekend the one with the Harry Potter train on show.
I have been on Bacup Cricket ground in the summer and I am sure we have had warmer days in January.
Snow for Rossendale has been poor so far this year but we still have the rest of February and March and we still can get a lot in the next 6 weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a snowy Easter.

Yes both sides of the summit, also A56 Accrington Bypass, A671 Burnley to Bacup, Crown Point Road although why anyone would want to try that one in weather like this is beyond me.
Left Burnley at 5pm on X43 and was turned round at What was Bull and Butcher. Went don Rossendale Road to the motorway and the A56 but got sent through Accrington then Haslingden finally getting to Rawtenstall over 2 hours later.

If it is shifted south by 20 or 30 miles every 6 hours then come Thursday it will be over Southern England come Thursday.

Just checked xcweather and it has 70cm for Rawtenstall.
