Just got in after an hour and half watching lightning storms ramp up with crazy anvil crawler and spider lightning, before then dashing back home to close the windows and have all this roll over head in Macclesfield. Storm was elevated to a degree, with only I-C, C-C and A-C lightning. But all of a sudden over head it started firing out smooth and incredibly bright C-G lightning, that sounded like the earth was splitting. Still going on now, and the first lightning could be seen about 9.30pm, so coming up on 4 hours of thunderstorms. Pictures and video to follow but one of the C-G bolts below, if sadly, a little out of focus.

Tower going up West of Macclesfield maybe 30 miles away. Chester away?

the one in france has exploded in size and the front of the storm is forming a curve shape i swear that means something with severe storms, like an echo idk
Might be a gust front or a shelf cloud that. Doesn't look like a supercell, just a big thunderstorm.

im stupid,,, what does that mean? sorry i love the weather but flopped hard in geography
Surface based storms are more like the bigger more organised storms in the USA. Not as common here but usually pack a punch, and can produce tornadoes and large hail, though very unlikely here. That one near Birmingham last night was probably surfaced based for a while looking at it.

Currently at the Cat & Fiddle pub on the Western Edge of the Peak District, can't see much in the distance due to extreme haze, not sure whether to stay put or drop further SW
Sat in Macc down below trying to make a decision.

Watching out for that storm that just popped North of Uttoxeter, should be coming my way soon!

Cooler and fresher today here, not as sticky, very thin haze but otherwise blue sky. Some Altocumulus castellanus around last night and this morning, but the breeze here is pretty strong. It's a warm breeze without feeling oppressive. In other words, feels like walking out of a hotel very early morning in Amarillo in May! Hoping for something during this upcoming week!

Breif heavy shower in Macclesfield with big convective rain drops about 15 minutes ago.

Seems to be 2 or 3 squall line type features seemlingly setup at the moment across England.

Nice 5% tornado risk in far North Western North Dakota tonight, with 15% hatch hail risk. Wonder if you'll get a tornadic supercell straddling the International Border like the Estevan day in 2018???

One crack of thunder about 5.00pm in Macclesfield from a moderate shower as it passed up over the hills. Some really torrential showers here today, more so than that one, that didn't produce thunder. Strange!

Absolutely oppressive here in Macclesfield now. Big heavy clouds bubbling up as they go over, feels like it might not be long before it cracks now.

Did not expect the stuff South of me over the Welsh border to explode like that at 9am in the morning?! Crazy.

Sure I've just heard a very distant rumble of thunder from the South East here in Macclesfield.

Currently watching the Brummie storms on the radar and am preying to all the Weather Gods known to Mankind that it doesn't die before it gets to me
Looking good. Potentially heading out in an hour or so if it holds together, somewhere onto the Cheshire Plains.

Blue skies and Cumulus here atm, though more cloud than sky (75%/25% split) Can see the high milky cloud layer to my south (go away please ) Temps already above 19C and still rising quickly, as is the dew point (16C) with humidity lurking around 80%. Far better than yesterday.
Fingers and toes are crossed.
Are we in with a chance up this way again today?

Light shower here, which I will take until I've been for my run, but rain drops the size of 50p pieces falling. Huge splats as they fall!
-
heading out after work and a quick run. I'm not expecting to be as lucky as yesterday, but concerns with 3 hours before I can go as to whether it will have all moved out. Hoping more develop later around Stoke Macc way and move out to the NW as its flat out over the plains for me!

Here is the video finally on Youtube of the funnel cloud I saw in Winsford, Cheshire this evening. All 4 minutes or so, including it roping out. It had rising motion about 5 minutes before this from the other side of the cell, and it also appeared to show some form of brief mesocyclone before rapid rising motion and this funnel appearing.
Enjoy!
Mike.

Just got back home after 3 hours and lots of flash flooding and some great lightning. Got on the cell near Sandbach and followed to Middlewich and then Winsford.
In the side roads there I witnessed a 4 minute half condensed cone funnel cloud about a mile South East of me.
Noticed the storm immediately before looked sort of surface based with rising motion and a sort of mesocyclone shape to it and 2 minutes later a large funnel over the fields. Video to come

Am assuming this is going to clear out later, for potentially more showers/weak storms later.
