14 days of S.Westerlys forcast now. Wind & rain to boot. Im sure the mods were forcasting heights over Scandi this time last week. What happened AGAIN !!!

Very very frustrating in the Mod thread..

We go through this every year it seems.

    Hopes dashed ..

Even the more respected people dont apear to be able to offer hope.

    Whinge over....

We have medium term forecast of dry and cloudy temps 3-9 which to me is the worst of all worlds.  Proper Atlantic weather would be warmer saving on heating bills and wetter replenishing ground water.  There are no upsides to coolish, cloudy and dry.

Nice start with a frost and now blue sky. Got down to -0.9C overnight, not as cold as I expected.

Here's the Met Office anomaly charts for December 2016. So for our part of the UK you can see that overall Mean Temps were slightly above the longer-term average, but the Minimum Grass Temps suggest lowish overnight temps (so frostier than normal?), but the big story is the continuing drought for our Region:

Despite the low rainfall our garden remains 'damp' and I suspect the slugs will still be thriving. I wonder why the low rainfall doesn't seem more linked to a drying out of the top layers of soil?

  3. Having done several seasons the problem with snow this late, especially onto warm ground is that it will just not form a long lasting base which means even sizeable dumps will not last through the rest of the season.  Ideal would be soem really hard frosts, a good dump of wet snow with some rain mixed in then more normal cold January snow - not going to happen though.
