Waited for the blob N of London to cross over from East Anglia and it has arrived as more rain than snow sleet

I understand it is possible to build a snow cannon using an air compressor, power washer and a nozzle and then all you need is low temps and low wet bulb humidity. Anyone want to give it a go?

Nice start with a frost and now blue sky. Got down to -0.9C overnight, not as cold as I expected.
Here's the Met Office anomaly charts for December 2016. So for our part of the UK you can see that overall Mean Temps were slightly above the longer-term average, but the Minimum Grass Temps suggest lowish overnight temps (so frostier than normal?), but the big story is the continuing drought for our Region:
Despite the low rainfall our garden remains 'damp' and I suspect the slugs will still be thriving. I wonder why the low rainfall doesn't seem more linked to a drying out of the top layers of soil?

Forgot to do December which prevented me being wrong.
My wrong guess for Jan is 4.2

4 degrees and heavy rain on the back of the wrap around tomorrow morning. Shame we never get these synoptics in January....
-
I challenge anyone to get excited about the next 10 days, tbh I would sooner have mild atlantic mush - at least it is cheaper on the heating bills....

What is this weekend warmth people are talking of? bbc 10 is showing us 9/3 for both days, a max of 11/4 on mon then colder again
-
So are we expecting some cold drizzle with sleetiness for a couple of hours at 5AM tomorrow?
-
bbc website is showing al4 will have sleet all wednesday night and snow on thurs morning. What are other models saying? Are we really that close to getting something?

6.8 for me please

Having done several seasons the problem with snow this late, especially onto warm ground is that it will just not form a long lasting base which means even sizeable dumps will not last through the rest of the season. Ideal would be soem really hard frosts, a good dump of wet snow with some rain mixed in then more normal cold January snow - not going to happen though.

5.9 for me please, didn't work for ~December, hopefully better for January
-
Am I right in thinking the more consistently windy a month has been the smaller any correction is likely to be because the air is basically moving all the timer so local effects are mixed out?
-
Ha, found you at last.
I am late, my excuse is that given the weather hasn't realised winter has started how am I supposed to.
Can't see any quick turnaround so even with if there were a cold second half we would only be average overall so 5.8 for me please.

Haven't taken part in the CET competition since last winter- and now I can't see the December thread - where is it?
-
Interesting that we are below average given it has seemed subectively to be an ok weather month.
From my solar output being above estimate and also my gas bill can I hazard a guess that it has been the night time temperatures that have pulled the cet down?
-
Lucky I gave you all a 30 point start in December....
-
Shame today's rain is arriving late afternoon rather than 5am...

Daughter excited - not by snow but by hoped for tweet at 7.30am cancelling netball. Other daughter x-country running in St Albans - suspect less snow and runners made of hardier stock.
Snowing not lying in st albans

We have medium term forecast of dry and cloudy temps 3-9 which to me is the worst of all worlds. Proper Atlantic weather would be warmer saving on heating bills and wetter replenishing ground water. There are no upsides to coolish, cloudy and dry.
