This will go down to the wire, who will be right and who will be very very wrong, the GFS or the others, I’m sitting on the fence!
-
Anything but springlike here, overcast with a 30 + wind blowing, it maybe mild but I certainly feel the windchill. if GFS is to be believed I may be digging the car out of the snow come next weekend!

Let’s have current check on temperatures in the region.

Being a survivor of the 62-63 winter when the only info readily available was the BBC forecasts and the Met office charts I received daily, what I remember was pre Christmas was a build of pressure over Finland which moved south towards Germany bringing bitterly cold dry air into the British Isles.
Now my point is that at this stage to our North West , mild air was attempting to penetrate from that direction, then the continental high collapsed and wilt high pressure moving north from the Azores the bitter prolonged spell commenced, I wonder in those far off days if we had all todays gizmos we would have had the will it won’t it situation occurring.

Sounds great, used to do loads of sledging with my 2 kids and then the granddaughters but now at 86 I still enjoy the excitement of a good snowfall.

Torrential rain and thunder here 3 or 4 claps but I missed the lightning. It seems to be easing now. The front seems very broken s I presume some will stay dry.

The last time I remember a really cracking storm was thunder Thursday but I forget which year, TV made a big thing if it when the Tyne bridge was struck.
-
I wish I had kept a record of the number of days since we had any recorded rainfall. Like most gardens the grass is turning brown and watering has become a necessity. No rain expected before next Sunday, it’s just as well we have Keillor resevoir

We often suffer from slack easterlies at this time of year and unfortunately this year is no exception. Next to no sunshine for the last few days, feeling cold in the wind and rain on and off. Oh for last years weather,

The current weather pattern is beyond difficult to predict and is really down to now forecasting, it appears to me with some elevation there will be some heavy snow of the wet variety , followed by a thaw then a freeze and so on into next week, let’s hope we then get an early spring.
-
Try to check the charts for March 13-14 1979, now that was a snowfall!
-
March used to be a good month for snowfall , we will soon know if this year hits the jackpot.
-
I have to admit to losing some confidence now. My knowledge on SSW’s is very slight but hope springs eternal.
-
Ok Gizzy, get ready for as much snow as you want, what a send off for the past few disappointing months , after March 20th roll on summer!
-
Well I was not expecting this, it’s chucking it down and just about starting to lie, just a pity it will be short lived but beggars cannot be choosers..
-
It has just started to snow slightly here but to be honest I am not expecting much.
-
Merry Christmas to all our deprived snow worshippers may the New Year bring you everything you want including loads of the white stuff.

We are still at minus 1.1c but I assume it will soon rise above freezing point. s of now plenty of ice remains plus a heavy hoar frost. What a change is coming soon.

Up here in Northumberland clear blue skies ,can see the showers running down the coast, to those of you who get some, enjoy.
-
Just started snowing here for all of two minutes.

Threatening skies here barometer falling but no snow so far, the showers peter out just before they get here,
-
Today appears to be another snowless day, hopefully an improving picture from tomorrow onwards but no great falls as far as I can see. 5 cm would do me.

I am very dubious of snowfall next week, we have been promised so much but it always seems to go tits up at the last moment.
Take the movement or should I say lack of movement of this weeks low, it was predicted to go east well we know what’s happened, it does not give one confidence for any predictions
Still we live in hope that during the next 4 weeks our winter wonderland will happen.
