Highest daily rainfall here 67mm and still heavy. Previous high here was 65mm on Good Friday 1998. Roads in many areas were flooded including both pavements.

Yes an exhausting day. Nice gently getting things sorted in the garden. Having said that I do seem to feel somewhat achey now.
So are we getting any thunderstorms tomorrow? So often much is promised but seldom it comes to anything.
Does anyone fancy trying to photograph a good burst of lightening.
Could always try this app. It is an iOS one but expect it is also available on alternative systems.
iLightningCam 2
APPS.APPLE.COMiLightningCam 2 - The Second Generation - Real-time lightning photography with iPhone made easy. It enables everyone to take spectacular pictures of real lighting...I Tried that back on the 19th July 2017 when we had a decent overnight storm, on an old iPad 2nd generation and it worked reasonably well - limited by the poor camera. Not used it since, as storms have either missed here or I was doing other things during the good ones.

If it uses the same data logger as the VP2, I have one you can have, when I replaced my 2002 VP2 with a new one in 2015, the old data logger was no longer compatible as the new VP2 had the latest V3.x firmware which wouldn't recognise the original unit. It's currently "stored" in the old redundant VP2 console.
I've just had a look on the Davis site and it appears the data logger for the Weather Wizzard III is considerably different to the VP2 unit. It appears to be an external fairly large box which connects to a socket on the WW3 and then connects to that Davis A.T 9 pin adapter. The VP2 one is a small 30mmx20mmx10mm approx unit with 20 pin socket on it which fits in the back of the VP2 console.

Does it use the same logger as the original Vantage Pro 2?

As we have been having some significant wet weather in the area, I discovered my VP2+ (old style no spikes) rain gauge had become blocked, and while surrounding stations were recording 50-100mm nearby I managed about 2 - the rain gauge cone however was pretty much filled - 18mm from the top. Anyone know how to approximate a rainfall reading from that - as despite best efforts to unblock the gauge slowly it cleared and the flow was too fast for the system to record properly. It managed 135+ double tips, but was being held in place by the flow from the cone at times.

I haven't been here for what feels like donkeys years. But the rain has brought me back!
Wow! The rain has been relentless in Kingston. Took ages to get home due to the path exploding outside Primark. Something to do with electrics. The same has happened in Epsom too. What's that all about?
Just think, this time last year. Twas glorious...
I would guess there was damage to the underground cables - all was ok when ground was dry - now its had some heavy rain, it's got down to where the damage was and caused a short circuit - causing the moisture to turn to steam as it heats - if if happens quickly enough it then causes the cable to fail. It's quite an experience when it happens nearby - ground shaking. We had a problem here in the 90s after cable tv was installed and they damaged the power cables, nothing happened until it rained then smoke / flames and ground shaking happened several times - and continued happening each time it rained until the length of damaged cable was replace.

Coldest night of this winter so far -3.4c here now. Snow cover helps I guess.

Looking at the radar - looks like the winds are changing more easterly - as the showers that were hitting Peterborough from the Wash are now going to our north
-
Just put the bins out in Central Peterborough, and there is about 1.5 inches on the ground and snowing heavily. Looks like the potent shower in the Wash that was heading this way has weakened slightly - still tonights fall is about the most we've had here all winter.

Can tell you all for sure there is more lightning than is being picked up on radars, I'm laying in bed with my window facing the perfect direction and can see flashes every couple of mins that are not showing up on any detector, not bad considering how far away it is from here
I thought I saw some flashes to the south of Peterborough a few minutes ago as well

All lightning stopped suddenly about 10 mins ago, so unfortunately lightningmaps is working ok

A couple of flashes with thunder in Peterborough in last few minutes
-
Just had a Heavy hail shower in Peterborough - everywhere gone white for a while, temperature dropped from 6.6C to 4.6C during the shower
-
Finally got some flakes in central Peterborough - although temperature and dew point have been rising since dusk here. It was 0.5c dew point -1.8c now 1.7c and DP -1.2c
-
Lots of flashes now over Peterborough
-
Starting to see sporadic flickering!!!
Where? - in Peterborough?
-
Yep, developments starting around here. Surrounding skies are filled with towering altocumulus.
Looked like some Mammatus as well a few minutes ago over central Peterborough - although just been outside and it feels quite cool in the wind, although temperature is 18.7c and RH is 70% and rising.
-
The fens might be boring but from my farm I can see for miles in all directions. Going to be a great night. We look right in the firing line. Camera on charge!
Any interesting views from your farm - for photography purposes / trees etc?

Broken the record here for high temperatures (since recording started June 2002 - it was previously 36.2 recorded on the 6th August 2003, today it peaked at 36.3c. Not too bad for July - although too hot for my liking.
-
Nothing but rain here since about 5:30 - temp +2.1c DP +0.3c
-
Just had a rain shower in central Peterborough, Temps still a bit on the high side, 2.2c and DP +0.1c although both are very slowly dropping (still have a few small patches of snow from Monday evening left in the shade on the lawn - but mostly all gone now)
-
The snow has pretty much melted here in central Peterborough, just a slushy mess left on the car roof, still reasonable cover on the lawn and in shady spots, but the temperature is now up to 3.7c and dew point risen to 1.5c
-
Just had a quick measure now its stopped, and we've had 3.75cm snow in central Peterborough - most since March 2013. Sky is still cloudy, but you can see the moon through the cloud. Temperature 0C DP -1.8 - both are dropping again since snow stopped.
-
Just been out and measured snow depth on top of car here in Central Peterborough, just over 2cm so far still snowing, although only lightly at the moment
