Here "Central" Peterborough - it started off sleeting maybe even hail giving a visible light cover, but within a couple of minutes it changed to rain - shower lasted only a few minutes and dropped about 0.02" of rain. Temperature now is 1.5c after that shower The remaining snow is looking very thin on the ground now.

Yes the sleet has now turned to rain - although the temperature has dropped in the shower from 1.8c to 1.6c

Looks like the shower has got here - although appears to be sleet at best on the leading edge - the temperature here is +1.8C

The snow lasted a fair while here, started at 17:15 and ended based on CCTV about 4 this morning, although was quite light towards the end. The snow seems to be melting quite quickly here in central Peterborough, temperature has been above freezing here since about 8 this morning - its been up to 1.9 and is currently 1.3. There is little if any snow left in the trees / bushes round here, and on the ground its reduced by at least a third. Quite misty here now.

It seems to be reducing in intensity here, although has been snowing solidly since about 17:15. It looks like there is at least 3 inches fallen - with some limited drifting in places. Temperature is still -0.9 so it should hang about for a while. The heavier patches which had developed on the radar, seem to have faded in the last few minutes

One of the big problems recently (last couple of years) has been the lack of good storms, to calibrate ranging on the system. Single detector units, will normally get the direction to the storm near enough correct, but they cannot really tell the difference between a strong storm distant to the detector, or a weaker storm close to the detector.
During some of the storms today, I noticed for the first time what looked like a reflection - another "false storm 180 degrees away from actual storm at the same distance", I cant remember seeing that on my detector before. I have recently updated the detector software, which is running on "default" ranging settings until a few good well defined storms are available for calibrating the system. Although there have been some storms today, many could not be used for calibration, as the strikes from them were fairly well spread out.

Just got back from Manton (near Rutland Water) - and car was reading -8 in the car park perfectly clear moonlit sky, and got down to -9 on way back near North Luffenham - it was -5.2 here in Peterborough earlier - when clear, now cloudy its -3.8 and getting warmer. The clouds started to appear about Wansford area when returning via A47.
