I'm taking Osbourne's advice and posting here:
Raining (again) and quite warm (a wee bit humid). Arthur's Seat is poking out of white cloud round its base. Little wind.
Earth-shattering.

Me too Snow raven. Recent additiona/changes are slowly improving what could potentially be a top-notch system, but there's still a way to go. For instance what's the poin in showing a pressure chart complete with little boxes in showing the mb pressure, but are too small to read? Surely L1003 and H1028 aren't too difficult to put on the pressure charts? Good also to see a start using temperature gradient using colours again - needs tweeked more though; with greater contrast, not just 'yellow'. Good to see mention of wind speed going to be shown in mph once again.

Well done guys. In 7 years of living in this fine city I've seen 11 T Storms, 7 of which were last year. And no tornados.

Watching the BBC News 24 forecasts this morning, it struck me how if you live in a triangle between Anglesey, Bristol and Sheffield, there is no temperature given at all. Manchester, Hull, Newcastle, norwich, London, Cardiff and Plymouth get a symbol but nowhere in between. Perhaps people in the W Mids especially are psychic?

UPDATE!
The BBC said the system, which it bought from the New Zealand Met Office, was the biggest change to its weather in 20 years and would take time to bed in. It also pointed to new audience research showing that seven in 10 viewers either preferred the new forecasts or liked them as much as the old ones.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If seven out of ten "either preferred the new forecasts or liked them as much as the old ones" that actually tells us nothing.
If the 3 out of ten hate them, and, say six liked them as much as the old ones (becasue only 1 out of ten preferred the new ones), then actually 9 out of ten prefer the old ones. Talk about using statistics to say anything.

It's probably already been said - but I really miss the colour contoured temperature maps. Blue through green to yellow/orange and red. Surely these are simple to understand and could be superimposed on the dreadful 3D map (thankfully to re-perspectived (!)).
As for the wind aroows - need a complete re-think; almost meaningless.
But overall, I would say I am personally getting used to it, and can see the advantages of the presentation. But I want to see more forecast, less presentation; hate the new 12 hour clock; want pressure maps back and want to see Scotland properly!
Over all a C+
See me.

How's this for scientific:
Absolutely chucking it down - torrential rain, leaden skies, cold wind. Soaked at the bus stop and cars with headlights on at 10.30am. Lovely.

Setting off in the morning and coming back next Sunday. Gonna go up through Deeside to see pals in Wick (Tues/Weds) and go through Tongue and Bettyhills right round the far NW and back down to Ullapool. Cannae wait!
So 2/3 nights on north facing beaches looking toward Iceland - good chance eh?!
-
Wayhay - I'm off right up to the north coast for a week in my camper van - I'm praying for some claer skies!

20:45
7C here - ENE 8 mph
The occluded fron is certainly knocking on the door - the haar is well and truly arriving; foggy with vibility of about 1km vertically, and judging by how Arthur's Seat has disappeared, the fog is about 75m up in the city centre.

In the year I've been on N-W I have never looked at this section! It's really quite interesting - perhaps needs more of a profile, so this post should shove it back to the top.

My first snow of this winter!! Quite heavy now in Edinburgh (Holyrood) @ 2000Z
Also sleet @ 1515Z and wet snow @1700 out at the Gyle.
None of it is lying yet but if the temps go down much the wet ground is going to be very icy (dangerous) tomorrow morning
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Just being nosey - if a members profile says they are in the 'validating' group - what does that mean?
