  1. 2 very black cells converging to my west, trouble is I'm roughly in the middle so not expecting much precip as I'm in the weak zone
  2. I've had my AM radio on all morning till now and not a hint of lightning down here!
  3. I see rain today is showing a heavy band of rain heading in my direction. Does anyone know the chance that South Essex might get any storms today, electrified or other?
  4. You're lucky Jo, I must be in some kind of storm shield, seen plenty of heavy cloud and precip but no local thunder or lightning, just a few rumbles from over Pitsea way !
  5. My wife just called me from Pitsea, large storm with CG strikes heading east, I could just about hear the thunder. Been a bit of a non-storm day here in Bas. Plenty of heavy rain and dark skies but nothing significant.
  6. Awesome isn't it, I posted that photo in the previous convection thread. Anyway, some nice convection and towers developing here, is there really no storm risk for the SE? Could have fooled me
  7. I'm in Brentwood atm and the fluffy cotton cumulus is rapidly building. Strange things going on with the clouds rising through the middle and falling on the outside, kinda weird looking. I can also see 2 sharp showers from very dark base clouds to my NW, perhaps something may come of this yet.
  8. A car is perfectly safe, so long as you don't make contact with the outer skin (bodywork) if it gets hit :o
  9. You need a personal faraday cage, not gonna find me out in the open ... bolt out of the blue comes to mind!!!! Aircraft are not exactly exempt either >>>>
  10. IOW is still active if you follow this link http://www.floodwarn.co.uk/lightning.htm Also plenty of info without having to go anywhere else
  11. Oh dear !!! I was going to use a stronger word but I'm not currently in a risk area
  12. Switch to Burnham. nearly as accurate as the IOW http://www.burnhamoncrouchweather.com/wxlight.php
  13. I hope you're right but I'm not counting my chickens just yet!!
  14. Good luck everyone, I'm a bit gutted!! Maybe my turn will come on Saturday!
  15. My local skies are moving along. No longer scud but high cirrus and Cb's starting to show. It looks pretty good for points west of me though I'm not holding my breath for a decent local event!
  16. It's all a bit inglorious here, practically no wind, a sky full of scud/dense grey cloud and no sun. It tried raining 15 minutes back but all a bit boring to be honest!
  17. Clouds??? well you're the lucky one..... Have you not heard the phrase "From little Acorns mighty oaks do grow"
  18. Severe weather warning from the met office http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html Looks like surrey and sussex might get walloped !!
  19. Mine from yesterday, showing what I believe to be the reverse side of what Liam witnessed
  20. Still very active in West Essex, shame the storm is out of my area but makes for good pics as I can show great cloud formations at a distance. My Am radio is going mental, Burnham and Upminster show loads of strikes but for some reason Newport has lost the plot!!
  21. I think we captured the same cell at the same time
