Got the edge of the previously mentioned storm dropping a little bit of rain on me now. Some rather interesting looking Cu/Cb to the north over York, which appears to have a couple of heavy rain areas in it looking at the radar.
My brother (who lives between Doncaster and Barnsley) has said he's heard at least 2 or 3 cracks of thunder near him in the last 20 minutes. Looking over that way, it appears like theres a lovely looking storm that way.
This is the one round the back of me, looks like its slipping off towards North Lincolnshire.
Development has probably been aided by the Aire Valley Power Stations..
Got a large bank of cloud forming behind the house (over the Aire Valley and York), possibly a few high tops in there. No sign of any naughty stuff yet from it.
We've had one hail shower on Wednesday afternoon here, and a few long showers, but other than that, nothing.
Theres been lighting strikes 10 miles up the road, but again, nothing here.
Had a couple of showers develop virtually over the back of the house in the last 15 minutes. One has moved towards Scunny, the other is currently over me giving a little bit of drizzle.
I'm watching a few bits and pieces to the NE of me (over the Yorkshire Wolds direction that are definitely towering up to that height. Need to do a little bit more looking to work out what exactly has gone on though.
I'm up in DN7, and from guestimates (and the fact its covered by the CuSc rolling behind), its at least 15000ft+ to the top of the Cu. It missed me by a matter of about a mile (saw it pass just west of me then go east slightly). Think theres a Cb in there somewhere, but the back end of the shower system has covered it.
From the view I'm getting from my front window, theres a line of cloud building to the west, probably west of the A1 and towards Barnsley. It appears that this stretches to the north of me as well.
I did seem to appear out of the blue, but I can see the tops of the system from home. It may be 30 miles to the west, but it still looks good.
This is brewing to the NW, over towards Leeds.
Its getting to the right sort of time for anything thats been brewing all afternoon to drop, that one to the west of you seemed to come out of the north of Blackburn about 2 hours ago.
Had a lightning strike about 10 miles away from here with the last rain that passed to the east of us. I'm currently in the middle of a ring of several lovely looking bits and pieces dropping rain, and its not raining here.
