  1. Hey Guys,

Quick question, ... Insurance.. i seen one or 2 of u mentioned proper storm chase packages ... i rang the company our family are on and they dont do it.

And another company said" thats a first.... ill hav to ring u back on that " . So i dunno what i should do?

John H. ( calls out to u! ) What insurance do u usually take out urself? :)

so what the earliest flights people are on..

I currently are on the 12.45pm

this is how I feel about AA..(not literally)

Sorry to hear that... its really stupid how u hav to pay so much to adjust your flight even when its clearly well in advance!

My flight From Dallas to Newark is 15.07.

  5. I done it!... FINALLY!!.... I BOOKED MY FLIGHTS!!! ha.... I never booked a flight for myself so i was looking over everything at LEAST 10 times! haha

Arriving In Dallas at 7pm May 20th.

Leaving Dallas at 3pm June 1st.

Sorry folks, but whats the name of the Hotel that u all are recommending near the airport?

    Anyone have a link?

    * Sorry ha, stupid internet wasnt loading aparently and i kept pressing save!

  6. Yep

No worries, the Changeover days are usually spent at the airport saying our goodbyes and hellos etc. Just means if we have any early departures we cant take any liberties with Chase Targets on the Last Day of the Chase, At the end of Tour 2 last year we were Chasing in the Oklahoma Panhandle and made a 350 Mile drive back to DFW On the Morning of flight day to get people back in time for 3 hours before flights etc, wont have that luxury if people have morning flights and that is why I asked, it's good to know in advance so thanks for your replies.

    Paul S

    Understand :)...

Hopefully we all Nearby storms for each of the last days ha :)

Hey, anyone know what type of lense filters would be a good option to buy for vivid greys and what not for skies? , i hav a polarizer lense that came with my new camera.

I know ya can do it all on photoshop afterwards but its good to get one the way u like it from the start.

  7. Yip you'll need one. Its the online version of the Visa waiver form you used to have to fill in on the plane or on arrival. Its good for 2 years. It used to be free but there is a small charge now. No rush in getting it but make sure you do it a week or two before you fly.

I think they might still make you fill out the Visa waiver form also but that on the way out. Either way, its essential you get it done.

Stu doesn't go with us but we bump into him a good bit. He's normally with Roger Hill and Silver Lining tours. He sometimes drives for them.

Thats grand so, just wanna have everthing sorted out in advanced .

    Cheers John. :drinks:

  8. Yeh I agree He came across and put his point about the Subject across very well considering he could have had the left trouser leg Ripped out of him at any moment from the looks of the Panel :whistling:

    Thanks for posting Hanra

    Paul S

Was watching that myself , does Stu go on tours wit u's or on his own??

Oh ye, whats this people about ESTA Application?, i persume ill need to do one considering ive never been to america b4 ha

  9. Just in Case any of you fancy having a go this year we will undoubbtedly Stop at the Infamous Big Texan Steak Ranch. Just 3 of the Guests over the last 3 Years have attempted this challenge with 2 Failures and 1 Success. Only 1 in 10 people statistically complete this challenge and if you fail you pay $72 for the Meal.

The rules are simple - Eat a Shrimp Cocktail, Bread Roll, Jacket Potato and 72oz Sirlion Steak (Cooked to your Choice) In 59mins 59seconds or Under to complete the task, you have to sign a death waiver and if you throw up during the challenge you are disqualified. Oh I forgot to tell you that you are on a Big Stage in front of the whole 2 Tier Restaurant in front of 100 Tables and the place is always rocking with Storm Chasers

    - Big Stu attempts 1st in 2008 and manages 54oz

    - Ian Completes 72oz Challnge in 58m 11Sec in 2009

Pat Carter then attempted it also in 2009 and managed to eat 42oz so Ians Crown is still safe. Now Interestingly Stewart (Audmun) is down to attempt the challenge on Tour 1 in 2011 and if he beats Ian Cameron's Time Ian has said he will try to regain the Crown on Tour 2. Also added into the Mix will be Stu London's 2nd attempt on Tour 3 to try and Get the title for himself.

It's going to be interesting this year.

    ANY OTHER TAKERS :whistling::rofl:

Just LOOKING at those videos i feel full! haha... Id have to starve my self for a that! ha

  10. What does Paul mean I look like Bruce Forsyth????????????????

    post-2466-0-19542800-1294341499_thumb.jp

    For information

If you on line and pay in advance they do a cheaper rate, you cant amend the booking but that shouldnt be a problem. You need to take the hotel phone number so you can call for the courtesy bus, its free, but you will to ring for it. It will save you quite a few dollars.

    Tom

Avast yee swab tis a duel I am being challenged too , we shall meet at dawn in Cardiff, with soggy leeks to hand. :yahoo:

I shall See you there.... * Awkward Breathing noise*

  11. Spoke to John Hanranhan yesterday and he booked his flight for EUR 600 from LHR-DFW (He is the Guy from Midleton near Cork) You could find out how much his Cork to LHR Flight is and if it works out cheaper than EUR 240 Maybe that might be a better option, obviously DUB-LHR Could be quite cheap with Air Lingus for example.

Edit looking at the Longer time you are there the flight you have highlighted looks pretty good to me anyway so probably best to go with it.

I take it you are getting there a day early to acclimatise :smiliz19: Like most people this year.

    Paul S

Ye paul im gonna try see how it works from LHR DIrect to Dallas aswell, just seen that one.. Im gettin these from expedia.com by the way, brilliant site , shows all options for your flight destinations that u want.

But ye, if i dont find anything more appealing i wont hesitate goin for the one i noted already.

ANd yes, goin a day early just to have rest and be ready for it all, as i dunno if ill be able to sleep on the plane for long.

And plus the arrival time for the 21st was like 10pm is quite late so ye. All the better goin a day early, knocks a day off my countdown!

  13. Lol

Yep we usually lose count of the Gustnadoes we see more especially in Outflow Dominant HP Supercells, if we are East or South East of the Supercell and cold blasts of air rush at you then you know chances of Tornadoes are diminishing but Gustnadoes usually are aplenty along the leading edge of the Storm. Another great thing to do on Down days and when Dewpoints are Low and Temperatures are High is Dust Devil Chasing, driving the Cars through a 30-40mph Dust Devil is always fun :smiliz19:

One Gustnado that hit us on June 6th 2007 actually smashed the back window of one of our convoy in South Dakota, they can be quite strong and if they have debris entailed can get a bit nasty, but they usually only consist of dirt from the fields etc

    Paul S

My Excitement level for this trip just keeps going up! haha

  14. Do you know I spent years trying to avoid just saying to immigration "I am going stormchasing" the first time that I did in 2000 the gentleman in Atlanta said " I heard bout people like you!" So for the next 9 trips i was visiting friends, sightseeing, starting a knitting circle or carrying out research on behalf of the WI for whom I used to do slide shows.

So repeat after me "I am going storm chasing with Reed Sherman or was it Paul Timmer?"

    post-2466-0-36515800-1294050127_thumb.jp

Photo courtesy of someone but I can't remember who. It wasn't me as I was driving at the time, we were on the interstate 35 heading north after the tornado which had caused the damage on the southbound side of the road. Pauls van is the one in front.

    Tom

Thats some picture... how did they not see it coming??... it must of been rain wrapped was it?

ON another note, lads, say if u's end up goin through a severe hail shower , golf -baseball size , and the cars get ...."a makeover", do u's hav to pay extra then for them being damaged or what?. Or do yas try get into a decent shelter first b4 witnessing any crazy size hail?

Sorry for all the questions ha

  15. Hi :D Good thanks, you? Can't wait either! You will be fine going to America for the first time, just watch out for the US Immigration, grumpy bunch usually :D If you have any questions though then ask away. Will be nice to meet you out there.

I'm still sticking to the same kit I had 2 years ago (400D + Sony HD Video Cam), might buy a lightning trigger for the SLR as there is a cheaper version out now :)

Ye it's gonna be some adventure! Ha

Ye I heard they can be a bit of a annoyance sometimes but I'm hoping to get all sorted while in Dublin in the new T2 terminal they hav pre-clearance checks now for people goin into America so I don't hav to hang around over in the airport over there :) .

Ah cool ... I was tempted to ask my bro for a Lend of his d200 but don't want to risk it as it's a quite expensive kit.

But ye , a remote clicker would be a great idea. I can't wait to see all the constant lightning !

A picture of me sranding in front of a text book supercell would be just class!.... And standing in front of a tornado would be a dream! Ha

Looking forward to meeting everyone out there!

Oh are yas all still planning to do a meet up b4 tour 1? For the entire group like? Didn't hav the time or money to travel for the other meet ups enfortuneatly...
